Minister Alan Kelly bomb threat

The bomb threat was made to Mr Kelly's constituency office in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, earlier this morning. The minister described the threat as "shocking and disgraceful".

“This was a very traumatic and upsetting experience for all staff and the matter has been referred to the Gardai," he said.

    "I condemn this deplorable behaviour.”

Speaking on RTE's Today with Sean O'Rourke before noon, Labour's Junior Minister Aodhan O Riordain told stand-in host Keelin Shanley that a member of staff in Mr Kelly's office was "very upset" after receiving the phone call.

Independent.ie understands that the threat was made by a woman - and the staff member who took the call in Mr Kelly's office is a young mother. The threat has been described as "abusive and threatening".

Could this be the start of something more?
Ministers cars being surrounded by protesters is one thing; but bomb threats and bullet threats are another. It seems as if the water protests are being used, or perhaps misused by people to vent their anger at government austerity, taxation, and cuts.
I don't think its just a question of water charge protests anymore, it wouldn't take much for things to escalate to a tipping point.
The moment a protester gets struck by a Garda baton, or knocked down; that is all it takes for the spark to ignite the fire.

A lone idiot made a stupid threat. Labour are milking it for all its worth.

Stupid threat by a stupid person.

Protest is fine. But no need to make threats like that.

It would certainly gain sympathy from certain groups, and so have the desired effect.

Ah, good old fashioned victim blaming.

Meh, he was in court last year or the year before over a dispute with his neighbour to do with a right of way.

Went crying to the papers about a death threat then. Which nobody local believed.

This is getting tiresome from Minister Kelly, the boy who cried wolf

    Bollox,.

The Govt are taking a right hammering over Irish Water, and a big slump in opinion polls too.

Alan Kelly's bomb threat was as genuine as the tooth fairy. To be clear, I'm not suggesting the call didn't take place, I'm just amazed that they'd take it in any way serious.

All these distractions today..... Reminds me on Shatter getting a suspicious package that he received after it was revealed he had another letter which he hadn't opened in 2 weeks. Of course the suspicious package was opened the morning G he received it.

    Lol.

Just saw someone on Facebook claiming the bomb threat was photoshopped.

These politicians need a reality check.

There is a lot of anger out there because of the handling of Irish Water.

The bomb threats were very immature though.

Politicians have used similar instances in the recent past to deflect attention away from the root-cause and try to garner public sympathy. It was on the wireless today about J Burton effectively being "taken hostage"...ffs! In a few months, they'll be singing the praises of the 1916 Rising and how men and women suffered for Ireland's cause but now they need police helicopters because people won't let their cars go....Heroes of the highest order. Bomb-threat my eye...

A bit of divide and conquer, methinks.....get the protesters turning on each other.

He made the call himself on his free mobile .

did anyone check the caller for a stab vest? Maybe it was the same undercover Guard that threw the brick.

    On that.

Almost 48 hrs later and brick boy hasn't been charged......

Plenty of evidence on him though. Bit odd.

    Odd indeed.
One never knows how much of this is government orchestrated?
For all we know it could have been undercover Gardai surrounding Joan Burton's car.
Playing the victim card is one way to cultivate sympathy, and if nothing else, it is a good distraction technique.
All it will take is a minister to be injured, or a protester; and the tipping point will be reached either way.
Enda Kenny isn't having a quiet evening in Sligo either by the sounds of it.

It IS pretty amazing isn't it.

People have been prosecuted for much, much less.

They know who it is, they have him on camera. It's case closed really.

    But no prosecution?

    Hmmmmmmmm....

If it really happened (and I believe it did - some of the protesters are out-and-out vicious thugs; no anger justifies that) then it was horrible cowardly act. It was someone working in the office who was intimidated by it ffs.

Who'd waste a functioning bomb on that man. Let him play the big shot.

I realy think it is the government trying to squirm some support and also divide the water protest even saying it make me think I have a thin foil hat on but it is the only thing that makes total sense
    bar it's just a few coincidence's

I can't wait for Wednesday when they say revenue will be collecting the water charge out of you bank account ect it will be gloves off then

They broke so many promises, they must go

No, and they aren't alone. Plenty of it on facebook. Apparently an "ex guard" was wandering about on Saturday telling people at the protest that the guy was an undercover guard and was wearing a stab vest.

But in fairness, he was a product of photoshop for the first few hours, so it's good he's got himself a job and not claiming the dole. Not bad for someone that only existed for a few hours.

There is, but that doesn't mean they should sit back and just accept people threatening to to harm them, trapping them in their cars, chasing them etc.

I have no problem with protesting PEACEFULLY but that's not what is happening now and it's just wrong. People behaving like bullies and thugs and it needs to stop.

a stupid pointless threat by a stupid pointless person.
why is it necessary to describe the person who took the call as a 'young mother'?
is she only capable of listening to phone calls that are non-threatening and maybe intersperced with lullabyes?

this whole debate on water charges is going to be undone by the clowns who insist in behaving badly ie. 'trapping' joan burton in her car, making stupid phone calls etc.

the govt will pounce on these and drag the whole democratic procedure of peaceful protest away while continuing to whine about how badly they are treated, the ickle babies.

A lot of these protesters seem to be scum. Throwing a brick, hitting a minister with a water balloon, climbing on to cars of ministers. I would love to see as many of these people get arrested as possible.

As opposed to the politicians behaving like bullies and thugs loading legislation through the Dail without debate, I'm sorry but when they act democraticly we will act the same

Three instances out of hundreds of thousands of people who have marched and protested.

How do you photoshop a phone call?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The thing is that it is not just three instances. It is three instances that have been documented. If you look around these people, they appear to be acting in a similar manner.

    Where are you even living?

I have read (as has anyone who is even remotely in touch with say whats happening in Dublin) COUNTLESS things that have occurred in Dublin and the perpetrators have got off free of charge. All the muggings, beatings etc happening in Dublin, nearly ALWAYS released free of charge + file sent to the DDP. People getting off without prosecution is NOT a new thing. It's our lazy justice system that tackles the easy stuff.

Won't work...Colin's off the sauce these days. He stopped making threatening phone calls after Bruce Willis had a New Jersey word with him.
I still think Bosco may be our bomb threat person.

I dont' believe Minister Alan Kelly. These boyos have cried wolf for years. If they want to be believed they better do the honest thing, steer the country back towards democracy and accountability by immediately calling a referendum and General Election. They are ruling without mandate against the will of practically the whole country which is disgraceful because it sends the message that our parliament is something of a joke.

But who's the alternative? The party who caused all this mess in the first place? The one with a terrorist and, if we're to believe the recent allegations, pedophile enabler as leader?

All political parties were terrorists at some point or do you like to conveniently forget some history.

If you think that you're a lost cause.

What is the proof that there was an actual bomb threat made against Alan Kelly and not just one of his staff or a friend of the staff making the whole thing up.

This seems to be helping his cause, if hes lying about it. Doesnt lying help his cause?
