move to UPC from eircom

Hi, not entirely sure if this is the correct place to post this but here it goes. Currently we are on the 3Mb eircom bundle and we are just outside of Dundalk. It cost about E150 for the internet and phone every time we get our bill and this is just crazy. I'm assuming the the 3Mb is the available download limit but we only receive 1.5 after checking with the UPC speed tester. The eircom package states it's E50 a month but there's always extra and that on top of the normal phone prices too so they obviously charge us when we download more than the 3Mb, so this prompts me to think of UPC thanks to the excruciatingly slow and very poor standard eircom connection. I've been looking around at the deals and just wondering what people would advise. We're only looking for the phone and broadband but wondering if we should go for the 200Mb or 120Mb. we're unsure if we'd get that speed since we live towards Carlingford outside dundalk on the main road. As well as that the 200Mb say it is E52 / month and the 120Mb is E25 for 4 months then E50 afterwards. i'm wondering does this mean it's 200Mb /120 Mb we could now download at a faster speed in our area for the stated price? I'd just appreciate any advice or tips on packages and what to do from people who have experienced similar issues to this. Much thanks in advance!

With UPC you'll either get 200Mb or 30Mb in a legacy area, or nothing at all.

You sure they cover your address?? How many km are you from the edge of town?

Also sounds like youre on the wrong package with eircom, you want an ulimited one, if you're getting surcharged you probably have a 30GB usage limit. Thats volume used, not speed available.

I'm to sure as to how to check if they do cover my address. we live outside Dundalk near Carlingford it is about 12 km from Dundalk. so would I be better better to call eircom and see what package they could move us to? The eircom bill states it is an unlimited usage allowance at E50 but the total package come to E105 and then with calls it comes to E170, to me this seems like a crazy price.

There's an address checker on the upc website. You can check if your address is covered.

They don't cover any of Louth for broadband.
You should lo at your bill and see what's causing it to go over, and look at other packs that will cover that stuff.
