    Sounds silly but i am clueless about building. I have a site....what do i do next and what is the process on building your own hse. Do i need an architect.

    You need a local architect or engineer or somebody competent to take you through the planning process and com out of it at the other side with a house that suits you, your budget and the site.

    Basically yes, go to an architect.
