Simple arguments that come to blows

Have you ever had a simple argument that comes to blows?
I can think of a few occasions in my life when a simple difference of opinion couldn't be resolved with words alone. A toe to toe outside was the only way. Maybe its human nature?
    Behaving like animals.
For example, I was with a friend once and he insisted birds were mammals, and I insisted they were aves. This went on, until it got heated and escalated; with insults thrown back and forth about who was right and who was wrong. It was no longer about the original argument, it had now become a question of who was going to win the fight.
And so we did what men do, we fought and I won. But did I feel better for it? Honestly no.
Neither of us did. And that's the funny thing in life, winning the fight isn't always the gratification a man needs, neither is winning the argument.
I am still on good terms with my friend so no harm done, and we laugh about the stupidity of the mammals and aves argument now.
The funny thing is often a man will stand his ground and fight over a simple thing, even when in his hearts of hearts; he probably knows that he is actually wrong, and the other person is actually right.
Its mad how quickly a simple argument can escalate though, and I wonder is it a primal need in us to fight and win? One that has been suppressed by modern life.
When I was a teenager I can remember having the usual adolescent moods swings as my body was flooded with hormones, and sport was the outlet. I burnt off some steam so to speak; channeling that competitive energy into something positive. Winning the fight became winning the match.
One thing I learned from it all was the value in a young person in having a team or sport to vent their anger. Often its the key to them staying away from filling that vacuum in their lives with; gambling, violence, crime, drugs, anti social behaviour, etc.
But what when a man matures, and still wants to win the simple argument and fight over it? Is it better to let it all go, or is it better to stand your ground?

Do some arguments lead to fights…yes. Do you need to come to blows to resolve it…definitely not. The fact that you had a fight with someone over something as petty as whether a bird was a mammal or not and who was right or wrong suggests that you are way too hot tempered. I would never fight someone over something so stupid and don't know many who would to be honest.

Going by the length of that OP it mustn't be that simple. I'm watching the rugby and just couldn't read all that - even for a decent argument.

The use of the word retarded is taboo now I believe.

    I wanta fight your faader.

More seriously, this is fairly typical of youngfellas "stretching themselves" and finding their limits, asserting identity, etc. If you're much more than 16 I suggest the two of ye find something else to do before someone gets hurt.

One New Years my auntie and brother had a massive fight over whether or not elton John was a genius....

Didn't come to blows but 'twas five years ago and we haven't spoken a word to that side of the family since....

I'll preempt by stating the obvious: sorry seems to be the hardest word...

I've had one with a good friend over possibly the most divisive football player to ever exist, Michael Carrick.

Yes, it's taboo to use it to refer to an intellectually disabled person as the word had evolved to mean a thick person. I meant it in the latter sense, but it was a poor choice of words, and I apologise if I caused any offence.

Who is the most annoying Star Wars character? Young Anakin or Jar Jar Binks?

I'm sure that's led to at least a few fights among Star Wars fanatics.

Came to blows with a friend when we were kids because we argued about who was better Triple H or The Rock.
