Does anyone know if there is a list of medication that the IAA would not issue a Class 2 medical if you are taking?

I got my medical in August. Was asked a lot of things, but I do not recall questions about medication. They ask you about conditions that you might have and some conditions are ok if you use certain remedies for them. If such conditions exist, they will issue you a medical with a limitation that the remedy has to be used in order for the medical to be valid. e.g. if you're diabetic, insulin has to be used etc.

Talk to your doctor anyway. IAA can't be on top of all the latest meds, so it's up to you and your doctor to make sure the medication you have to use does not interfere with flying

I've been declared not fit to fly and am not sure if it's because of the medication or the illness. Was hoping there was a list somewhere to check.

was that an IAA approved doctor, who said you are not fit to fly? He/she should have explained the reasons and suggested if there's anything you can do.

I don't think any list of medications exist, but the list of conditions does. See attached. If your condition is not there, I suggest you book a visit with dr Andrew Jordan, he works in two clinics, true gent, should there be anything wrong with you, at least he will tell you what's what and what you can or should do, if anything, to make yourself fit

Yes it was the IAA who declared me unfit to fly although then it was the CAA as I have CAA licence but IAA medical.

Was hoping to get as much information as possible without constantly emailing the IAA, I don't want to be annoying them

that's a horrible thing to hear, especially if you already have a licence. I know a gal who failed her first exam due to anaemia, or something along those lines. Doctor worked out a diet and exercise list that helped her overcome her condition and a year later she was fit to fly. That's how doctors should work, if your's doesn't work that way, find one who does!

Only the half of it. I suppose it's a complicated case for me as it's different authorities involved.

In fairness to the IAA they do seem to be doing their best. Just take a while to get any where.

Why do you have a CAA licence and a IAA medical?
but I do not recall questions about medication
I believe that the application form is similar to the FAA, so the following question is most likely there ...17.a. Do You Currently Use Any Medication (Prescription or Nonprescription)?

Basically, got my PPL in Florida so was issued a CAA licence, got IAA medicals as it's much easier for me to get the medicals in Ireland

The reason that i was curious was because i was under the impression that for the PPL, the medical had to be done by the country that was going to issue the license, so CAA/CAA IAA/IAA, so i guess that this is a renewal.

Have you considered approaching the CAA about this rather than the IAA?

I've always had an IAA and CAA mixture. It seems to work!

Have approached CAA, they tell me to deal with IAA, IAA tell me to deal with CAA. It's getting a bit messy, wish I just had all IAA.

Why don't you contact the IAA's own Doctor, whose name escapes me now and simply ask? I'm sure he will explain what presumably is his decision and may offer advice on resolving the issue.
In fact he he may write to you in due course.

The advantage of dealing with the IAA is that it's smaller and you're not dealing with faceless bureaucrats. Mind you that can work against you at times. But usually it's a positive.

I'm on three forms of medication and still hold a class 1 medical. I found everyone very helpful when problems cropped up. The only time I was grounded was to ensure there were no negative side effects from the medication.

It seems to me though that you must have an inkling as to why you lost the medical. Either the condition itself or the side effects of the medication. A change of medication might help. But again contact the IAA Doc.

I have been in touch with the IAA doctor, he was the one to actually take back my medical after it was reissued. Really nice guy (from my limited interactions) but have a feeling he just wants me to deal with the CAA but CAA say I should be working with the IAA

I do think you are owed an explanation as to the exact reasons why your medical has being revoked. I wouldn't tolerate that. There will be a specific reason and you need to know. You'll have to be persistent I'm afraid. Get something in writing from him for the CAA.

I am in the process of transferring from the CAA to the IAA for the PPL. Got declared unfit to fly midway through it. Rating expires on the 30th November, so it needs to be sorted before then. I'm waiting to hear back from both the IAA and CAA but they both seem to be blaming each other.
