With the love-in for Kia/Hyundai on here, I'm going to guess that most of the replies will be for the Kia.

There's a new model Sportage on the way next year so on that basis alone the Qashqai will probably have lower depreciation. It's also more modern.

If there's a new Sportage out next year then that definitely would be a decision maker. Would you have a link?

Very little between the two. I find the qashqai is more of a hatchback whereas Sportage is more if an SUV, but that's just me trying to differentiate. As you say Qashqai is more modern, especially the dash.

Shortage has the lower depreciation.. the only other SUV that comes close is the VW Yeti... reason most likely high standard spec and 7 year warranty.

I was going to post the same question here but found this thread. I'm comparing a 1.5l diesel qashqai 07 with a 2.0l sportage 08. Test drove a qashqai and found it a little lacking in power on the motorway (foot to the floor I got just over 80mph). Would be very interested in opinions. Will be driving it across Europe this summer in addition to lots of town driving and cross country trips so fuel economy, reliability and low maintenance are my chief concerns.

Nissan Renault Dacia all the one.

Nissan Q seem to be very popular but I wouldn't be mad about a Nissan since Renault took over and the cheap electronics and other parts which we get here.

Nissan was always cheap and great engines not any more.

I would go for a ford Kuga or something similar.

Cheapest kuga I can find is twice the price of the Qashqai and Sportage I've found so that puts them out of my budget.

All they're reliability since 2008 has been pretty much excellent. That's when Renault starting using Nissan electrics.

Kuga are saucy enough price wise.

The Q I'm looking at is 07, are electronics an issue there then? I'm selling a Renault which had numerous window reg issues and don't want to get stuck with another set of a Renault problems.

Actually the Sportage is not an SUV but a Crossover. Are a very nice car do and the dash is high quality even the lower plastics and clovebox lid has nice materials on them softouch and all. . Most say its better inside compared to what Ford use in the C-Max on its dash.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

You should be grand it would be Nissan electrics then in the Nissan and not Renault ones. Renault started using the electrics that Nissan used from 07 or 08 on has the had merged together.

There is usually lots of qashqai knockers around but suffice to say that the amount of people who buy second qasqais speaks for itself. They certianly do not have the electric problems that dogged Renaults and overall are a pretty reliable and comfortable motor. Car of the year once again this year. :P

I'm thinking of changing my car later in the year, and am looking at either the Sportage or the Qashqai. Popped over to my local Kia dealer yesterday and he had both "last year's" Sportage, and the new 2016 model. And the ever eager salesman said that the current (15) model is being withdrawn in a couple of months' time. I was just wondering what the story is re. what Kia are doing with (presumably) a large-ish stockpile of 2015 Sportages as, to my eyes, the new model isn't as nice looking a car as the 2015 variant.

I was glancing over a 152 Quashqai, the dash build quality etc is like from a 90's car. I didn't like it. Also the rear number plate plastic handle on the boot are prone for breaking off in your hand! They look a very cheap built car, all in my opinion of course.

Agreed the older model Sportage is much better looking than the new one but the new should be nicer to drive and more refined it also has a much nicer steering wheel than the one in the current model. It has the controls for the phone placed much better on it than where they are on the current cars steering wheel. Id say Kia will sell the rest of the current model of for less than they were selling for just to get them sold so expect some great deals.

Also, I would guess that there'll be a few of the current model turning up on the likes of autotrader, carzone, adverts etc over the next 9-12 months.
