Hey guys, hoping to get some advice because I'm at the end of my tether with Eircom. Basically I live in a student house and my landlord has tasked me with sorting our internet based woes. The line we have at present is a standard 24mb line that can do a max of roughly 18mb and in reality does maybe 3mb when it actually functions.

The majority of the time the net is unstable and simply crashes out for maybe a minute every quarter hour. The majority of the time we can't open a web page let alone do any of the work that is required online for our coursework and as we speak there is apparently a massive issue causing a large amount of lines in south cork city to simply stop working.

Having spoken to the sale department and tech support repeatedly I was advised by a sales rep to try and speak to an engineer. Less than 500m from my house there is a massive hub where the engineers work out of and they said there was absolutely no reason that I should be paying for shoddy service and no reason I am unable to get Efibre and yet still no luck with anyone on the phone. They cabinets the house connects too are apparently all fibre enabled and live but apparently these wonderful cabinets are incapable of supporting one more house in the area. I am curious of other had similar experiences and got some sort of closure and should I stick it out with Eircom or consider upc?

For anyone interested the house is on Wilton road near the shopping center. Thanks for the advice /indulging me in my rant.

If you're 500m from the exchange then you're VERY likely direct fed. You need to wait till early next year(or later) for eFibre to be available on your line.

If UPC do fibre powered(50-200Mb) cable in your area go for that. You can come back to eircom in a year if you need to.

Yeah I was on the phone to UPC about a month ago due to the said instability and they said they could have us hooked up to 200mb internet about 3 days after I finalized the order. Honestly considering calling my landlord and telling him to put it through. It's currently unusable and has been for months with no help from Eircom aside from "Reset the router". After being dicked around for months and constantly being told it would be installed within the next 6 weeks I am pretty done with Eircom. Thanks for the info.
