What kind of plants could you grow in a hedge type environment like this? I'm looking for natural Irish plants that fit into this type of environment that are a little more aesthetic to look at than ivy/nettles/brambles that currently exist. Seems hard to find information on making an existing hedge (or whatever you'd call a patch like this) more aesthetically pleasing other than ripping things out, clearing beds and starting afresh.

Would you go for a native hedgrow mix? Most decent garden centers that do bareroot could get you something very reasonably. Small plants (whips) would be around 1.20 each maybe?

A mix like Blackthorn, Alder, Dogwood, Dog Rose, Hazel and Spindle. Maybe add a native holly as well?

That would give you a good mix of flowers, fruit, nuts, habitat for native birds etc. Should thrive there.

I had to put spaces in between the characters of the http bit because only posters with over 50 posts (ridiculously high) can post a link

I want to post something with an image as well, but cannot do it properly because of this ridiculous restriction.
