Im about to upgrade from a very old (20+ yrs old) TV.
We are on a basic Sky satelite service, with an old Sky TV box.
My wife has heard form friends of hers that when they bought a new TV, that the reception on the their existing Sky service was very poor and that they had to upgrade their Sky package to get a better quality picture.
I presume this is not correct, that if you buy a new TV (ie flatscreen LCD) that the standard Sky package should be reproduced fine on the new TV?

The reception as in signal will not change the picture might not be as clear and that depends on whether your using SCART/HDMI leads. Does your old Sky box have a HDMI input at the back of it if so just get a HDMI cable and it should be fine. There should be (not too sure about old Sky boxes) settings to set up for better picture quality so you can get the most out of the TV and HDMI lead. I only done this last week for some who done the same thing as you.

If the Sky box is only outputting an analogue signal (Scart/coax) then this can look poor on a digial TV due to the higher resolution supported. You may need to get the Sky box upgraded

32 inch or alittle bigger should be fine anyway with a scart connection from an old sky box.
Going bigger sizes, like 50 Inch, standard Def reception is not really up to it. It appears abit blurry and annoying. Even with the best sky kit and hd pack, you are still left with standard def channels that will always look crap on a big tv like 3e for example.

You never mentioned if your old Sky subscription is Sky+SD or not. If not then a SkyHD box is what you need although a Sky+HD box will still work. You can pick up boxes cheaply on Adverts/Donedeal examples below

A HDMI lead is €1.50/2 in Dealz/Eurogiant. That's all you need is a €2 hdmi lead. There are some ridiculously priced HDMI leads out they are no better than the €2 lead.

Btw avoid cheap TVs they won't last you 12 months. Not going to mention these brands in case i'm sued.

Sony LG Panasonic Samsung JVC Philips and Hannspree are trusted/reliable brands.

My sister bought one in 2011 dropped it flooded it gave it to me to use as a monitor and its still going also I know a few people who bought them in Xtravision/Euronics and they still have them. Not a bad TV although the EPG on them is **** compared to Sony/Samsung etc
