Any ideas for DIY seating area for a school play ground. I have been given the task of looking into this. So far I have managed to source the large esb spools to use as tables but what about seats for around this. Tyres maybe?? Not planning to use hammer and nails btw as not much of a handy person but if I had some useful tips that would be great. Thanks in advance!:)

If you can get your hands on some pallets then they could be easily turned into chairs, benches etc. Obviously that would require using tools.

I presume you will be at least sanding down the spools before use, couldn't have someones dear child getting a splinter.

Thanks I did see some pellet ideas on internet but would need a handy man to go with that...will see. Yeah I never thought of the sanding, suppose that can be done ourselves. An important one to remember, cheers!

You can get smaller spools also half the size of the big ones. I made stools out of tree trucks for the kids in the back garden they are good and strong just stuck in the ground.

that is a good idea only we wont have any trees to use. The best I can come up with are the large tractor tyres and maybe the spool would sit in the middle of it, depending on size as you mentioned. I can get the large or small ones while are available. I do need something that stays outside permanently.

Thanks for suggestions, I must google some more ideas!

Local saw mill should have some stumps it wouldn't cost much because they can't use that for much other than burning.
Tyres would need to be filled with something other wise they would sag on the rim side from people sitting on them.

We are already using the huge tractor tyres as seats though recently we filled them with soil and sowed plants so now are not used for sitting on. They are fairly tough unless eventually they may sag. So a local saw mill? I must look into that thanks. But they would charge for wood stumps?

It all depends the one here in carlow if I load them myself and he doesn't need to cut them I get them for free. It might be worth a shot.
