Katie Kirk requests transfer to compete for Ireland

Great news if this comes to pass, winner of this years National 800m champs and one of the best prospects in women's middle distacne running at the moment.

From the Indo:

Elsewhere, Irish athletics is about to make a useful new signing as Katie Kirk (21) a former Great Britain junior international, who won the Irish 800m title last summer, has applied for a transfer to run for Ireland.

Kirk, left, only switched to 800m in the last few years, has a 2:02.6 and last ran for Britain in a 4x400m team that won European junior gold in 2011.

Sensible decision from her point of view. Women's 800m in GB is very strong with Lyndsey Sharp, Jessica Judd, Alison Leonard, Jenny Meadows etc. She was only 13th in GB last year. Tough to make that team.

Is this actual fact or just speculation on behalf of the Independent?

On the 6th of Nov, Katie said..."just to clarify considering and no documents signed yet!"

On the 7th of Nov, the Irish Independent reported it as "Irish athletics is about to make a useful new signing"

Has it been confirmed? Source?

Nothing has changed since. She hasn't announced anything. She used the response you quoted to speculation of her having already signed.

That photo just shows Katie in a Northern Ireland vest which she would have worn to represent NI at the Commonwealth Games.

Had a quick look at the list of transfers. 9 of 18 to Bahrain. Is that not a bit wrong?

Katie Kirk is from Co Down, that gives her an automatic right to run for either Ireland or GB&NI.

As for Jamaicans...well I did see a picture of Bolt in a kerry jersey once, does that count?
