UK licence in Ireland

I'm working for a UK company and as part of my work contract I have to acquire a UK licence. Now I've no problem with this send off my irish driving licence and identification to Swansea and get a UK licence in return.
Now this is only a contract for a year, when I return can I drive here with a UK licence?
I assume as it's a EU licence I can, what about insurance loadings etc?
The only reason I ask is I may return to the UK to work for the same company six months after I finish with them and don't want to transfer my UK licence back to an Irish one in that time. It's a complicated situation.

My wife has been on hers here for over a decade - she drives like a little old lady and is unlikely to get stopped. I suspect if she did there would be trouble after that amount of time.

In relation to insurance some insurers don't care (Allianz) others take a dim view (AIG).

You don't have to change an EU licence if it's still valid.

Confused, where do you live? If in Ireland, you can't swap for a UK licence as you have to live in the UK to swap to a UK licence.

If you have a driving licence issued by an EU member state you can drive in Ireland as long as your existing licence is valid.

You can use the UK one in Ireland.
