Cheap vs. Expensive RAM

I got 16GB G.Skill RAM last year (1333 MHz) from hardwareversand.de, but one of my 8GB sticks became corrupt (now out of warranty). I want to get some new RAM to add to the remaining 8GB, but am not sure which to choose.

My question is: Is there much of a difference between cheap (1333 MHz) and expensive RAM (2666 MHz)? Would I notice a difference if I was to put another 100€ into a replacement 16GB (2x8GB) card?

    I use my desktop for Gaming/video rendering/photoshop.

    My original build below:

    16GB-Kit G.Skill (1333 MHz) PC3-10667U CL9-9-9-24
    2 x AMD HD7950
    Intel Core i7-4770K Box, LGA1150
    ASRock Z87 Extreme4, Sockel 1150, ATX

    Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.A (BW)
Samsung SSD 840 EVO Basic 120GB SATA 6Gb/s
    2 x WD Caviar Blue 1TB 6Gb's
Nanoxia Deep Silence One Dark Black, ATX, ohne Netzteil
    Samsung SH-224DB schwarz
LogiLink USB 2.0 all-in-one Card Reader, für 3,5" Einbauchschacht
    3 x LogiLink e-SATA Anschlusskabel mit Sicherungslasche, 1m
    Corsair Professional Series HX850 80PLUS Gold 850W
    2 x Enermax T.B.Silence 14x14cm
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SB-Version English

    Any help appreciated!

First question: How much did you pay for the ram at the time?
    I got 16GB G.Skill RAM last year (1333 MHz) from hardwareversand.de

Remember, ram prices have increased significantly since last year.

    Hi Ninjah,

I paid €134.39 for the 16GB G.Skill RAM. It now costs €139.25 for the same item (link - ww

    If increasing the speed makes a big difference, I was thinking the ''G.Skill TridentX Series - DDR3 - 16 GB : 2 x 8 GB - DIMM 240-pin'' its €189.89. That would double my speed from 1333 to 2666MHz. ( link - ww

OT but I remember G.Skill replacing my 5 year old stick with a new one, there's no chance a 8GB sticks are out of production and G.Skill offers lifetime warranty (i.e. year or two after they stopped manufacturing said sticks)

Thats interesting, I assumed that it would have been the 1 year electronics warranty typically given. I will try this. Do you think I should contact harwareversand.de or G.Skill ?

1 year is not acceptable lifetime, provided you haven't been doing anything funky with it. Send it back, I'm sure they'll be accommodating.
