Dairymaster batch feeders are a waste of money, they have a pneumatic ram on them, so need an air compressor to drive them, literally the only advantage of them over a pig feeder is you only need to press a button instead of the effort of raising your arm up in the air to put a very lightweight rope! The obvious disadvantages is the cost and complexity. I got a price of about 8500grand for a 14unit Dairymaster system, including all the augers etc.

The price I got on IDS was 5500 for the same 14unit including augers etc. However only a few days ago I got a price of 4700 for crowley pig feeders, a friend had them installed in his parlour recently and he was very happy with them, I can pm you on contact details of the installer if you want.

On the 8000l tank, no I haven't priced any up lately, however in around 10/12k would be what I'd expect one to be. Which would be almost the same price, if not more than a brand new one when you factor in a 40% grant. The current dairy grant is closed, however there is talk about the current one reopening for a limited time, and there will almost certainly be a new1 (TAMS2) in the next few months anyways.

I put in the ids ones in 2009/10 . Happy with them. Your man that sells them has a list of farmers that have them and you can give a look.

Thanks timmaay . The dairymaster feeders are costing me 900 more than the ids can't see the xtra value in them only I would have all my machin from 1 crowd but don't see anything wrong with the ids ones . Would love to put in the electronic feeders but budget won't allow for it

One advantage of the Dairymaster feeders is they can be converted to individual/batch feeders fairly easily in the future by adding a 50kg bin between each pair of feeders, if that was a direction you wanted to go towards.

Didn't know that, very useful in fairness. Quader, only 900 in the difference doesn't sound like much, are dairymaster offering them to you very cheap, or have they overpriced the ids feeders?

The augers and the holes in the batch feeders can be positioned so that at a later time a 50kg bin can replace a pair of the batch feeders and a single control panel can be wired up to either batch feed or do individual feeders.

So the first 2 batch feeders are replaced with a single bin with 2 outlets and so on down the line. Then you press a button to feed the batch or decide the feed rate of each cow in the line one by one using 6 pre-programmed feed rate buttons. At the end of milking you then press 2 buttons to refill each side instead of each batch feeder filling after each round of cows.

I assume there is a facility to read and feed electronically but its not on my radar for a good while into the future so i didn't ask.

Its handy if you are limited by power supply as the only draw from the feeders is before/after milking.

lads how much for the pig feeders 10 unit, and a 5 tonne silo? Roughly? Also what height roof would you need in parlour from ground to top of feeders would be how many feet?

In araound 4000-5000, 5ton bin would be 1500-2000. I did get a price of 2k including the vat for a 7ton recently, seemed very good value. I might be out with those lower end figures, I was pricing up for 14units so just knocking a few quid off.

No. A neighbour has the batch system in and wanted the option of the full system in. Looking at it and comparing it to mine, it is certainly possible.
