Water softener salt tablet question

Recently our domestic water softener had some issues.
It was most likely caused by a short interruption of power during one of the stormy nights a fortnight ago or so.

Anyway, the lad who installed and serviced the unit went with me to fill up the receptacle with new salt pellets.
When he saw the brand of tablet/pellets I was using he advised me strongly against using them.
He said they were inferior and that he and others had advised a local hardware supplier to stop stocking or selling them.
He had seen issues with the softeners requiring a full change of resin because these inferior salt tablets were preventing efficient cleaning of the resin.

I won't mention the brand of the alleged inferior brand just to say that the brands he recommended were Broxo and Axial (pro?).

Is anyone aware of this issue regarding inferior salt tablets.
Speaking to another knowledgeable neighbour he believes the issue is to do with those tablets granulating and causing blockage of some filters within the unit.
