Had a look at one of these today, a very nice vogue that Im interested in. Had a look round and everything seems to be clean , only has 60k miles on it too which is a little low for an 08 but i suppose these are a glorified school bus half the time.

Ive tried to do as much research as I can , and trimmed most of the fat and scare stories about these . The only things left concerning me are the gearbox / transfer case and front diffs.

Are these still issues with them ? (most stories seem to concern the older 5 speed box) , aside from changing the fluid is there much else I can do to keep it in top condition ?

And in a worst case does anyone have an idea of repair cost ?

anything else I should triple check before taking the plunge so I don't get any nasty surprises ?

One of the comics did a feature on buying L322s recently, haven't got my copy any more though.

IIRC, the front diff issue affected early ones and if it has service history should have been sorted under warranty.

Can't recall what they said about gearboxes and transfer boxes, I think they are trouble free. Check everything in the transfer box works, servo motors can seize through lack of use. If it's an autobox, I believe you'll need to get that refilled professionally or make sure you know the procedure, not just a case of emptying and refilling.

Otherwise it's a case of making sure absolutely everything works (could take a while!)

I'd love one of these but don't think it'll be happening soon.

Just drove a TDV8 Vogue SE from Sligo to Gwent in Wales and back with a 1.5 tonne load on a ifor williams flat bed trailer, could not have imagined a better 4x4.

They really in truly are the best, nothing compares. 650 miles and felt as if i only nipped down to the shops. The power is immense either when towing or not. 280bhp I think, 100 more than the landcruiser. It's rated to tow 3.5 tonnes which is great.

The diff and gearboxes only give trouble on the earlier td6 models. Your safe.

You are one of the few that realise that owning a 4x4 is not limited to toyota. Your in the the by far more capable machine.
    Good Luck.

While I agree the V8 Range Rover is a fantastic machine, you are not comparing like with like.. the 200 V8 diesel landcruiser has 286bhp which is the competitor of the RR, not the 3.0 litre 120 series..

Eric, sounds like a decent buy with low mileage, and they're not really known to give the same trouble as some would say. The TD5 really hurt Land Rovers reputation

As with any luxury car, repairs will be costly , but if you're considering running a TD V8, then you probably know that
