Been multiple rumour's over the last 1-2 years on this subject. Peking is teh most frequently mentioned destination. But then again Air India were a strong rumour for a while too.....

So the Arlanda summer seasonal route is 100% gone? I used it quite a bit for business last summer and it was better than SAS for the sole reason that the plane arrived in early in the morning.

Just as a average flyer, on ample times I did fly that route, the planes were about 80% full, weird why they would pull out.

Yes, remember PIA were all set to come to SNN. These rumours, even when shored up or even confirmed, can be fleeting.

I believe they got a fair amount of transatlantic transfer traffic from ARN, prior to Norwegian having direct routes. This may have had some impact, no idea if it'd be enough to kill a route.

So I've noticed Dublin - Brest isn't bookable next year with CityJet.

Is there any Direct flights to Funchal Maderia from any Irish Airport or any proposed reopening of this route . I would like to go back there but would prefer a direct flight .
    Thanks

Yes there will be, returning for summer 2015 operating on Thursdays by Air Contractors. Should be available from travel operators in new year.

    Schedule:
    08.15-11.55
    12.40-16.20

    Great News
Is that from Dublin and what are Air Contractors because if its landing in Funchal I would want a plane with good brakes .
Who could I book with .

Aren't Ryanair starting flights out there? Not sure if it's to Dublin or not.

Don't worry they only malfunctioned once this year ;) . 2 days after it had to return to Dublin twice in one flight.

There is an article on The journal. ie today stating new direct flights from Dublin to Cuba & Jamaica.

It doesn't give any other details, anyone hear anything official about these possible new routes?

Most likely a charter company, not surprised to be honest as the Caribbean is not an area served from the South whereas the North has had charter flights there over the years.

Good news if that comes true. Although I think it will probably be Thomas Cook 4 times in the summer which imo is a complete waste of time.

Could a mod add transavia.com to Paris to the list in the OP if they get a chance.

    Thanks

Charters can only be a 'waste of time' for the operaters - the only people who matter here - if they lose money...

What a myopic point of view. Its a new route, 4x weekly is perfectly fine, especially if 4x weekly this year turns into daily in 2016.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 5,524 ✭✭✭owenc

No I mean like only 4 days of the whole summer.

Its still not a waste of time if it makes money for the operators - its a charter, not a scheduled route. If tickets do go on general sale it'll only be whatever seats are left after the inclusive packages are sold.

  • Registered Users Posts: 90 ✭✭Khuitlio

Has this route been referenced anywhere other than the journal article? I would love an announcement but it seems like people are adding 2+2 to get 100 at the moment. Fingers crossed you're right though!

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Ryanair to the Middle East? Would be one of the routes I'd genuinely consider flying. Also with Wow Air now linking Iceland, possibility of FR or even EI giving it a go? Properly marketed it could work nicely I reckon.

    Where in the Middle East?

I can't see them competing with Emirates/Etihad. Unless you were referring to somewhere like Amman...

Would you be thinking more along the lines of the near East? As in Egypt, Turkey, Jordan or Israel?

Yes, I was thinking Israel solely. I believe FR had been probing the idea, talks of a Ryanair Israel or some such?

    Google search delivers these:

I always wondered why FR has not expanded into Tunisia yet to be honest. Very popular tourist destination and it would do well in the summer for sure!

I'm pretty certain its not in the EU Open Skies deal yet - unlike Morocco - so they could only fly from Ireland and even then only if on our bilateral. Ryanair would usually want to fly to a number of bases when opening to a new airport.

Isreal is in the system now as far as I know but Ryanair wants to operate flights from there to countries which aren't, which is why they want an Israeli AOC.

What about a proposed EI service to Dallas. I heard it was being discussed by Mueller a few months ago, and the route was meant to have been implemented prior to Mueller leaving.

Both Turkish and Ryanair are to make big announcements tomorrow, I'm thinking AMS and CPH with Ryanair, still not sure what Turkish will announce seeing as they have only very recently increased frequency.

Read the article you linked to....
Mueller was interviewed by the Indo last summer......was asked about Dallas...his response was "it is certainly an interesting destination"

    From the article quoted above:
.......in an interview with the Irish Independent, Mueller confirmed that new services are already on track and would come to fruition before he leaves the Irish airline next May.

He said: "I will not mention any destinations, but we have very concrete plans........

..................But Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) chief, Kevin Toland, has already given a strong indication that a service to Dallas is very much on the cards

EI have already announced their new flights....
4x weekly to IAD, increased frequency to MCO and SFO, early DUB-JFK for peak season, increased capacity from SNN over the peak season.

The 'big' Turkish announcement was just confirming going double daily. Very disappointing.

"Dublin Airport welcomes Turkish Airlines’ announcement today to fly double daily to Istanbul from March 29 this year. “We are delighted that Turkish Airlines has decided to go double daily on its Istanbul route,” said Dublin Airport Managing Director, Vincent Harrison. “The airline has gone from strength to strength since it started flying from Dublin to Istanbul almost 10 years ago. This is the third successive year for Turkish Airlines to increase frequency on its Dublin route. “This increase in frequency by Turkish Airlines will see improved connectivity between the two cities giving both leisure and business passengers increased flexibility for travel onto their extensive network from Istanbul,” Mr. Harrison added.Making today’s announcement Turkish Airlines General Manager, Murat Balandi said: “Last year passenger numbers on our Dublin to Istanbul route increased by 21% when compared to 2013. Istanbul is becoming more popular for long weekend breaks and we have seen great growth in our leisure market to South Africa and Thailand as well as in the corporate market to the Middle East and Far Asia.” Flights depart Dublin at 11.00am arriving Istanbul 17.20 daily except on Tuesday when the flight departs at 16.40 arriving at 23.05. daa will continue to work closely with Turkish Airlines to progress further growth opportunities in 2015. What exactly did you expect?

Going double daily is another step forward and means better connectivity with long haul destinations.

It's to be welcomed, and not to be disappointed about.

They'd already announced it, so something else was to be expected from a new announcement really

They'd announced it, but this was the formal launch.

They were hardly going to increase frequency further before even going to double daily.

I can't see them increasing beyond that for some time yet.
