    Hi there

Could ye recommend me a phone that I want to give as a gift.

Its for a 12 year old and he is on the meteor network.

I'm looking to spend €100 and this phone here is what I was looking at.
    https://store.meteor.ie/phones/pay-as-you-go-phones/huawei-ascend-y550

The phone in the bargain alerts http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057312038 would of been ideal but there seems to be issues with stock.

Any help would be greatly appreciative.
    thanks

If I was 12 and someone gave me that, I'd be very happy.

Check out gsmarena.com for detailed reviews for any phone on your shortlist.

Would you not have a look on adverts for second hand phone?

Those phones are cool, its like a built in otterbox, bit expensive though for half decent specs.

Christmas pressie so has to be new.

I'm looking for something with 1GB Ram, +5 MP camera (front camera would be a bonus) and at least a 4" display.

Has to be Android for certain apps;)

    Thanks

What about the Lumia 530? I know it's not Android but I was really surprised by how good the 520 was last year for under €100.

Sister has a Huawei in white and i was shocked that it only cost 100 quid. I thought it was an absolute bargain and would highly recommend it. Very similar to a galaxy S3 with a slightly worse screen id say.

Go for the white. Looks a bit nicer.

I wouldnt get a phone from China for a Present when you can pick up this for 100. No way in the world.

heres a vid of the phone.

Yup looks like the Huawei is the best option for the price.

You could probably pick up a sim free Moto E for that money. Similar specs and it will be upgraded to Android L.

Thanks. Quick search on my phone and it's coming in at €108. I'll have a good look when I get home.

Another vote for the Moto E here.
Huawei sounds better on paper, but the Motorola is worth the couple quid in the difference.
Only advantage the Huawei has is LTE support, but I don't know whether that would really matter to a 12 y.o. kid, or is even available depending on where you live, if you aren't in Dublin or city?

Get the Moto E it is much better than the Huawei in the respect its much more responsive and will be getting upgraded to Android L.

    Thanks for the replies lads.

So its down to the Moto E, Huawei y550 and now vodafone smart 4

The smart 4 can be got at €79.99 by changing network.

If it was for myself the Moto would be clear favourite but because its a gift, I think the B&M store would be the safer bet.

You can use the link above to check for stock in a nearby Argos store before you go out looking for it. They don't always have it in stock all of them, so this could save you a bit of travel.
Anyway, you are going for the right phone I reckon. Good luck with it and hope it makes your 12 y.o. happy.
