    Hi,

Noob question. I have a a flow control valve and a TRV at either side of all my radiators. I'm in the process of balancing my radiators based on this article

    http://www.muswell-hill.com/foxandco/pages/balancing.htm

If both valves restrict the flow of water into the radiator then why not just use the flow control valves? Why need the TRVs also?

Because the lockshield side is for controlling the flow to each rad and therefore balancing the system.
The Trv is for controlling room temperature, it automatically adjusts flow according to the temperature.
