I always see theses amazing bikes in magazines that cost thousands, but wonder does anyone actually buy them, maybe not anymore in these tough times, or do you have a Dogma under the stairs along with your old Sworks venge ;)

One of the marshalls on the cycle against suicide had a mclaren venge seemed to be carbon everything. Serious looking machine probably the most expensive bike I've seen in the flesh.

met a guy at a sportive last year, riding a pinarello worth several grand. the owner was very excited to see the di2 on my bike, and told me he was after ordering a new pinarello, worth the bones of 10k, with di2. asked him was he getting rid of the old one he siad no....

he then asked my what the battery life was like on di2, to which i replied it got the bones of 1000km between charges as claimed. he then said, prefectly honestly, that was great as he'd get a season out of that

two pinareallo's. probably 15k worth of bikes, split between 1k a year. 500km on each.

A colleague of mine has built his own bike. I asked how much it cost but he wouldn't say.

He would only tell me the price of his front wheel. It was in the region of 1-1,500 pounds.

I can't imagine what the rest must have cost.

To be a superbike I think it should only be the full house!

Would agree here, the whole package is required to pass as a Super Bike!

Yep, it is all about The Engine.

I do not own a Superbike to be clear. But love my bike the way it is. It is there to bring me to any place I want to go and any time I want. I have my Donkey for three years, and She changed my life more than anything else ever before.

On the other hand, if I wasn't aware of the existence of the Superbikes, I could easily call my bike a Superbike. Simply because if I could attach a Super Engine to it, She would then become a Superbike :).

Yes that is the official Ferrari "boards.ie" garage.

Most expensive bike I've cycled with (not my own) was a Pinarello, around 13k I think! Lovely bike.

    **Im kidding btw.

Dura-Ace Di2/Super record EPS to start. Where do we start with frames and wheels?

    Except for track bikes ;).

Then of course a powermeter probably goes without saying..... :)

There may well be "super" bikes above. But a "Superbike" will forever only conjure up images thusly for me:
    Aprilia%20RSV4%20Replica%20Superbike%20%201.jpg

For superbicycles, I reckon it's gotta be at or close to top of the tree from whatever manufacturer, and whatever component.

so an s-works/dogma, with zipp wheels, but ultegra di2, or dura-ace mechanical wouldn't count as a super bike? reckon I'd still call one with those a superbike if i got a chance to buy one

I don't know. I'm asking in general as I don't understand what people mean by a "super bike".

Personally I'd have to say nothing mass manufactured like Zipp. It'd have to be lightweight, Enve, Mad Fibre etc. properly exotic wheels.

Zipp/Mavic/FFWD etc are far too common.

Also, an SRM powermeter is a minimum.

I'd love one myself. As I said, I'm asking what others call a superbike. Curiosity.

If Beasty would commute on it, then it ain't a superbike. If he'd race it, then it is :pac:

It would in my book, dura ace mechanical - absolutely. Heavy ass electronic groupset are a blight.

I'd draw the line at ultegra though. Gotta be Dura ace.

    Yes.

    Top groupset - check
    Stupidly light - check
    Undoubtedly wife-worryingly expensive - check.

I think 4 grand is a good line in the sand for determinations

Only one of the discs is Zipp and none of the 3 and 5 spokes are (plus I do have Zipps I didn't list!)

i know quite a few people with bikes over that value, wouldn't call any of them superbikes.

a mid range canyon is in that price range. if that's the determination of a superbike....

I can certainly confirm that. However mine did survive pretty much unscathed.
