arrived in the post today. It's smaller in size than I thought (about as tall as my hand) but still looking forward to it.

on a side note I was in Dubray bookstore on Grafton Street over the weekend and they have some great photo books- National Geographic The Photographs and some others (can't remember names).

If any more good deals around for photo books please post!

Just FYI folks,

This book is small. The size of your hand. And its tightly bound do holding a page open in the centre of it is gonna require a bench vice.

I think photography books by there very nature should be bigger. They are all about the visual after all. Still for a tenner I shall cease and desist my whinging.......for now!

I received the end of polio book today, still waiting on the other one. These are only my initial thoughts as I have just skimmed through the book as I haven't had time to read it yet.

There seems to be a nice collection of images with a good amount of text, page space wise I would say it's about a 50 / 50 split. The pictures are big enough t enjoy with the overall book size being about 10 x 8 inches and some pictures taking up the full two pages except for small piece of text. My biggest criticism having just skimmed through the book is that some of the pictures are spread over two pages across the seam in the middle which has the effect of breaking up the image. I was a fan of Sebastiao Salgado work anyway and for me it was definitely worth the €9.

Hope I'm not derailing the thread... But I love photobooks so it's hard to not mention these little stocking filler gems:

Beetles and Huxley gallery do really nice exhibition catalogues at, usually, £10 a pop. The Salgado one is nice and still available. Probably not worth it if you have Genesis, but there are other photos in there too (41 plates in total). The Michael Kenna one is lovely also but sold out quite some time ago. Anyway, they make nice introductions to various photographers at a reasonable price (and will probably appreciate so if you don't like it, sell it on). They measure about 8" by 8".

Nick Brandt 'Across this Ravaged Land' at £16.00 on Amazon is an absolute steal too....

Oh, and in case you have a slightly more lavish stocking to be filled, Steidl are releasing Henri Cartier-Bresson's The Decisive Moment soon (hopefully this side of xmas). It's £78.00 everywhere, but Speedy Hen are currently doing it on pre-order for £40.50. Whoop....
