Are garage liable for destroying my car?

Two weeks ago, I hit a small island and cracked power steering, and the sump. I had this repaired and sump replaced for €350. They billed me for refilling sump with oil which was €35. Fine.

Two days ago. The car starts jerking back and forward, and in the space of 10 minutes, a load noise begins. We're on the motorway. Had to get car towed back to home (€270) in mayo. Been told by local mechanic and VW expert that engine is destroyed, major oil leak!!!

When they're filled with oil. They leftist overnight and said no leaks,ur grand, off you go. Are they liable for destroying my car. Also VWs have a warning system for low oil, could they have switched this off as it never came up with a warning?

Thank you for your response and time for reading.

So they worked on the sump and left it overnight and it didn't leak?
When you started driving it the car started leaking and the engine seized because of oil starvation?
Did the VW expert give you any advice?

    Thanks for getting back.
That's correct, left it overnight and said it was fine. I noticed no leaks nor did a warning light show up for low oil?. It happened in the space of 10 minutes.

The leak must have not been addressed properly in the garage. Quality of work not up to par - possible breach of their contract?

I Dident ask the mechanic as of yet. I'll give him a call now and see what he thinks. Right now, he estimates €1000 (600 engine/400 minimum labour)

Was it the same garage that you brought it to the second time? If not, why?

I go to college in donegal. (Where I had work done). Got the car towed home to mayo as they had to collect rental car they Lent me.
No work has been done. Just diagnosis of problem. Should I go to donegal garage? Any point arguing?

Well you have to at least let them take a look. How can you expect recourse if you haven't given them the opportunity? Have you let them know of the problem yet?
