I'm located in Sligo, the site is at top of a hill and would be good to get this checked now if possible rather than wait till drier weather in 2015. My question is, is it worth doing this at this time of year given weather conditions? I will be speaking to some local testers this week about the same thing but want to get a feel for it before that. There are other houses on the road (including new builds) none of which had any problems with this. thanks!

I'm guessing u also need trial hole done as well, we wa wanted to do ours last Christmas but we wer told not to by engineer.our site is on very dry ground and on a bit of a hill, we had to wait until the ground dried up completly so it was April this year when we had it done. Dry weather is preferred for it as ul need to get someone to dig the trial hole which is about 5 or 6 different size holes and they fill some of them with water and time how long it takes the water to seep out,it has to be in a certain time frame it its too slow r too quick it fails, this was y we waited until april

hey caitb 1 yes need to dig the holes also, great to hear how you did that. can understand the preference for dry weather. i'll chat to these local guys anyways and see what their take is on it also. . I've read the guidelines for performing the test, seems like a straightforward enough one once the holes are prepared. thanks very much for your reply

It didn't really matter what time of year you do it in, as the epa test records the "mottling" level in the soil. This is evidence of the highest water table level, so even in summer the highest water table level can be seen.
Its also a false economy to think that doing the test when the water table is low will allow for the cheapest solution. Is actually a better idea to do the test in winter to determine (a) if the location is suitable and (b) what the best solution is.
