Im in the middle of this degree and a bit unckear of what jobs I can apply for after, I have attached a link to my module descriptor and see what you think, bear in mind there is a 4th year add on with the option of two streams..

Data analytics or Social media with a work placement

Although it is a computing/business degree so far no computing modules have interested me. I actually do not know what I want to do after college, I really disliked programming module

I know they have a career section but I also know their tryna sell the course thats why im reaching out for any real world advice

  • Data analytics is quite popular at the moment and you should have some career options if you take that route, but I guess there is a programming element to it you may not like. What was it about programming you didn't like, and what languages were you doing?

Make use of the careers advice counsellor. It should be free. My one for my masters helped be create the cv that I still use today.

Also, I work in analytics. Any questions, fire away.

Well what exactly would you do day to day in regards to analytics

Go down to the student support services on the ground floor, just beside the vending machines. Speak to the career services people there ( can't name then here, but they are very good). Also speak with your course coordinator and the lecturers, they should also be able to point you in the right direction.

It depends, but my time is split between data collection (which is tedious and very time-consuming) and statistical analysis, followed then by qualitative analysis of the results. It really depends what phase of the project I'm on that day.

You say you disliked programming, but what aspects of the course did you like the most? The course looks like a broad mix of IT and business subjects.
Id consider Project management, financial services maybe. Data analystics is from my experience quite technical so unless you are goods at maths/statistics it may be a difficult area to get into. Social media sounds a bit airey fairy, what modules does it involve.

If you're not opposed to working in a Marketing environment then there should be plenty of work in Agencies.

I work in a digital marketing agency and we have an entire team internally of people doing analytics work on customer data and social media and they are always in demand by the client teams here

You don't have to be a maths genius either. If you're getting grades of 2.1 or higher in advanced quants subjects, you'll be able to manage.

I'm actually only in second year, maths and programming are just my weakness modules I didn't mind sql databases but sure that was only an introduction module. HR was interesting. At least I'm getting some insight here on Data Analytics that it probably wouldn't suit me, although I did a lot better on quantative methods than I expected I didn't enjoy it at all

That only leaves me with the Social Media specialisation strand the modules for it are: user experience usability, digital marketing, social media marketing & PR. I don't know if I'd have much confidence in my creativity for that line of work.

A girl I know is working in a compliance role and from what I hear from her it may interest me, I hear it's a growing type of job but I'm not sure if my degree would get me an entry level job?
