No PPP link

I have an eircom D1000 modem, all my lights are on but the "Internet" light is red. When I go to a webpage, the url bar says 192.168.1.254/chi-bin/noPPPLink.html

I've restarted the router, the computer, plugged out all the wiring and plugged all back in, everything that I'd usually do in times of no connection. But nothing worked.

I'm logged in to my router and everything looks normal apart from one part. Under connection> broadband, it says "disconnected"

Does anyone know how to fix this?

You can try a factory reset. There should be a 'reset' pinhole on the router, push in a pin for 30s while powered on and this should reset the router as 'out of the box' so if you have made any changes you would need to re-apply them.

    Edit:
Also check you are using the right information during setup-
    Username: eircom@eircom.net
    Password: broadband1
    Encapsulation: PPPoE
    Multiplexing: LLC Based
    VPI: 8
    VCI: 35

I've done the factory reset, still the same, no connection. I checked all the details you told me, they all match.

It makes no sense to me. I had no problem all days yesterday until about 9 last night. I went out and it was the same once I got home. I went to bed and when I got up it was still the same thing.

    1. Your account is barred, call eircom.
    2. Your exchange is down
    3. Youve been put on the wrong port(unlikely at 9pm)

Get your hands on another modem, if that fails you'll need to register a fault, it could even be billing issue, is it paid

Check if you have a dial tone on your phone.

PPP means point to point protocol.
If it's down then it's something on your isp end.
    Give them a call.

Could be a fault on the line. Try another router if you can get your hands on one but I'd report a fault to eircom.

True, but assuming the OP is using eircom the phone is not unbundled afaik.

I stand corrected :), but you should still get something if you plug in an analogue phone, right?

SADSL is connected to the AXE, so there should be a soft tone. SVDSL there's no phone connection whatsoever.

In any case, lets assume the OP has called them now and sorted out his unpaid bill ;)

Might not be a billing issue.
Is there carrier detect light on the eircom routers?
If he's getting CD but no PPP then I'd say its an issue on eircoms network.

I get regular PPP link down's in the evenings during congestion times. DSL sync stays up just the PPP session drops. If I call eircom they tell me my connection looks fine and stable. Reboot router, usual rubbish.

If your symptoms are different then maybe it's not this.

I rang eircom yesterday morning around 10 am. After being forced to listen to pop music for 20 minutes I finally got connected to a human. Unusually it was a person who could understand me and I, them. I told them the problem and they said they were going to send a technician out to the control box or whatever. I was told of there were any further problems the technician would ring me to get access to my indoor wiring. The connection is still down and I haven't heard a peep from them so I'll be ringing back today to see what the story is. I know it's not a billing issue as that was paid three weeks ago.

Yesterday was Sunday, You'd not get a tech on a Sunday, they'll most likely call today

In my experience the D1000 router is dodgy, usually dropping the connection after taking 5 or so minutes to get a connection. I've tried multiple of them on different lines with VF and Eircom. Might just be me but unlikely.

My sources tell me that Eircom was having trouble with moving over to a new billing system recently, so stranger things have happened than a customer getting deauthenticated like this!
