Can anyone help me out here.
I'm on Jobseeker's Allowance and I have a daughter in college who is 19 and my son is 21 and works 9 hours a week part-time hours.
I'm living on €188 a week and I'm really struggling. My 21 year old lives with me and because of this I will not get the fuel allowance. Am I entitled to any help as with household charges and property tax im under water now & need help. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. Thank you in advance

Both of your adult children should be handing up some of their income(if both are living with you)! The one in college is surely getting BTEA and the other is getting casual seekers allowance so they can both afford to hand something up! Also how does having your 21 year old affect you getting fuel allowance unless he is already claiming it?

IN emergency situations the St Vincent De Paul can help with food and budgeting etc! If you are in dire need give them a call!

And lastly this is the open source forum not the social welfare forum!

    Hi and thanks for reply.
My daughter is in college in Dublin & she had to get a student loan before moving to Dublin.
My son works 9 hrs a week at 8-75ph and lives with me.Because he resides with me and he's not a dependant as according to them he's self sufficient. So that stops them allowing me fuel allowance. I would have been better off lying and say he wasn't living with me but I'm honest.
Also I'm new to this and left it open forum as I wasn't sure how it works. Apologies if it's in the wrong place. I was just asking if there is any other help out there as I lost my job 2 yr ago and impossible to get back into work. I'm fortunate to own my apartment but am finding it very hard to survive

If you are struggling with gas/electricity bills you should speak to your local DSP Representative (Community Welfare Officer). You can find your local one here: http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/otheroffice/community-welfare-office-contact.aspx

With regard to your son, he should double check that he isn't entitled to a reduced rate Jobseekers Allowance payment. He may meet the criteria depending on how many days his nine hours is spread over.

I'm not saying that he is entitled to claim a reduced JSA payment, just that he should double check to see if he is.

Speak to you local DSP representative who should be able to advise you about this also.
