Sky Broadband Only 3mb. Thinking of Using Hotspot

    Hi,

I recently moved into new house and had Sky tv/broadband(bb) installed on Weds. I had been a UPC customer for the previous 3 years (only option in apt). I found UPC bb superb but the UPC box was laggy. Anyway, that's why I decided to go back to sky.

However, I am only getting 3mb with sky, which is painfully slow. The house is wired for NTL/UPC as there is a terminal on the wall. I was considering UPC bb and Sky tv combo. Anyway, that's the background.

I ran a speedcheck on my phone of the Sky bb and then of my phone coverage. Sky was 3mb, my phone was getting 22mb on its own. So my questions are:

1, Can I use my ph or my wifes ph to connect to the Sky box when we need to download boxsets ect? We would have 30gb usage allowance on 2 phones.

2, How much data would a typical 1hr show use? (not HD)

3, Can you foresee any problems with this? Or suggest any alternatives

I am trying to keep sky tv, have good bb, save money (already pay for 2 boll phones, may as well use up allowances). I don't want to wait for Sky to upgrade lines.

Thanks for advice, hope this makes sense.

If you only got Sky Broadband in on Wednesday then there is a cooling off period where you're free to change your mind.

See if you can get UPC in and keep Sky TV.

I find each episode uses about 500MB depending, if you press i on the remote twice it will tell you the size of the programme.

Yeah as I am in cooling off period I am exploring my options. One unlimited UPC is 17.50pm for 6mnth then 44 after. I think it's good offer so might go that way. Thanks for advice

Great info, thanks a million. Puts it into perspective. Think I would eat up too much data just using phone data. Need unlimited.
