my husband and I decided to finally split up. he said he wants to see me settled and sorted before he sorts himself out. I have been working and paying for all the bills for the past few years since he lost his job. he tried to start a business and he doesn't earn enough to get a wage nor does he get any social welfare. whatever he makes on the business goes back into the business and I never see it. he contributes 80 euro per week on a job he does once a week. my friends say that I should go to a solicitor and make sure I am financially stable because he more than likely wont stick to the agreement we made of each of us leaving with 50%. I am terrified to broach this subject with him as he gets very angry when ever anyone says to him that he lives off me. should I trust him to stick to our agreement or should I go to a solicitor. or should I be trying to leave with more than him

Go to a solicitor. That's an obvious call. Might cost a bit at first, but believe me it'll be cheap in the long run...
