    Hi all,
sorry if this is a stupid question as I dont know the full story with it. But I recently started a job but only getting 10 hours per week. I heard about the whole "working part time" thing before with the social. That if you earn a certain amount under, you can "top up" with the social. eg, if you were entitled 188 from the social per week. But only earn 100 euro from your job. You can get the 88 euro from the social.

But how exactly does it work?

    cheers

    *edit*
doing a bit of research and i seems you can only work a max 3 days per week. If you work 4 you aint entitled to anything. But how does the process work? you inform the SW each week of your hours?

Were you signing on and them started a part time job?

If you are earning €100 pw and working 10 hours over 4 days you should apply to your community welfare officer for a "top up".

Thanks for getting back guys :) I contacted my local Social Welfare office today and sorted everything out.

But I might as well go through the whole deal for other people wondering the same :)

    - You can only work part-time up to a max of 3 days a week to get the supplement. So in other words work 4 or more days then forget about it.
    - Also the amount of hours doesnt come in to play really. It's all about the days. For example, you could work 4 days a week but only end up working 12 hours in total (aka, 3 hours per day) But because you worked the 4th day you will not be entitled. But of the flip side you could work 3 days a week with a total of the same 12 hours and be entitled.

    So it's a catch 22 situation.

If you were signing for 12 months fully unemployed prior to commencing the job you could avail of Part Time Job Incentive. There is no restriction in days on this as long as you work no more than 24 hours in the week. If you are single you get €119 pw and partnered you get €193 pw.
Once you work over the 24 hours this claim would then cease.

You have no entitlement to jobseekers as you are working more than 3 days but you can still apply for a top up from you community welfare officer if your gross earnings are less that €188 pw (assuming you are 26 years of age).
