Special Rate Grant Query

I've just been in contact with the SUSI helpdesk about my reassessment and apparently I have been awarded the grant for this year (pending the college's confirmation of my registration and attendance), but apparently I'm receiving less than the previous two years. For my 1st and 2nd year, I received the special rate and now it appears I'm going to receive the 100% adjacent rate. I know that I should be grateful to have finally been assessed and to receive that amount, but really and truly, my circumstances have actually worsened yet I'm being told I'd receive less for this year. Surely that doesn't make sense?
I've emailed support about this but I'm really starting to worry. Does anyone know the process of appealing your grant award? How long would it take? I'm in dire need of my grant payment at this stage and it just seems ridiculous that I'd receive less maintenance when my accounts and information I submitted indicated I should really receive the special rate once again?
    Any help is really appreciated.

Check the special rate conditions to make sure you qualify and if you do review and appeal your grant decision. Good luck !

Thanks, that's the first thing I did. I'm assuming I should wait until I receive the letter saying I've been awarded that rate before I start any appeal process?

Could you contact your student union welfare officer. They might know where you go for short term financial help.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
