Aer Lingus vouchers - beware

Just tried to use a voucher I had been given as a present. Turns out that Aer Lingus gift vouchers can only be used for countries where your fare comes up in euro. So no using it, say, to return one way from Warsaw to Dublin. Of course it doesn't state this anywhere on the voucher.

No way to change the voucher (which my friends already paid for) into the currency I need, even if I offered to pay a charge.

    Sickened.

I got screwed by them as well.
Living abroad and because a flight home wouldnt be in EUR, I wasnt able to make use of it.
So I made use of it when a family member came to visit...
I booked the flight in my name, and then changed the name on the flight to their's (which of course incurred a name change fee but the voucher was for 300 euro so managed to get use of the bulk of it)

That's crazy! Never knew that. I wouldn't thought a voucher for a company would be good for that company anywhere unless it specifically says so in T&C (e.g. only valid in ROI etc...)

The mad thing is, if I were to book a return from Dublin to Warsaw, it would cover both legs as the bill would be in euro. I even offered them the full value of the voucher (which they already have in their paw) for the flight I wanted, which is worth a fair bit less than the voucher, but their suggestion was to book another flight to somewhere else(!).

Thanks for the warning. It seems daft.

As a workaround, if you book the 2 legs separately then you can use the voucher for one leg, and the remaining balance can be used later.

I gave up on Warsaw in the end, which was a pity as I had got really good deals on hotels there and in Krakow, where we intended to fly into. Just lucky I didn't book the other flights and the hotel first.

Can't understand the thinking behind it, they already have the money.

Going to Birmingham, which isn't quite as interesting, but there you go - still some money over.

Same happened to my brother in law, we got him a voucher in Euro for heading home from the states and he couldn't use it. Sickened. It's in their terms and conditions but is still stupid.
