Not sure I buy this idea. If the animals were meant to be spirits or gods, why represent them being hunted/killed/with their guts hanging out?

I've no doubt that many ancient sites were chosen or utilised the properties of sound within them, but as a side effect or part of the whole along with the dark and shifting candle light and depth into the earth as a package deal. Just as today if you go into a cave the temptation is strong to go woooooooooo
I'd say that's a very ancient temptation. Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
