    Hi folks,
Is softwood basically the orangey coloured wood and hardwood clear coloured? I know hardwood weighs a lot more.

And say if both were cut, chopped and stored for 2years would they burn the same? Thanks.

    Well...... lots of questions
To answer what i think is the heart of your question "will they burn the same?" the heat content of the wood when it is dry is related to how dense it is (how heavy per unit volume) (mahogany is denser than balsa wood for example)
so the same weight (not volume) of hardwood or softwood at the same moisture content should have nearly identical heat content, i.e. they will release the same amount of heat when burned

softwoods and hardwoods ..... i shall leave that can of worms to another to answer for the moment
