GVT and Chin ups

Embarking on GVT, 2nd week in and still getting a feel for things. The only problem I've had so far is the 10x10 chinups. They're really, really, kicking my butt. I can barely do 3X10 and then is 4 or 5 for the rest of the sets. Added to that I can't seem twist my hands to grab the bar comfortably and I feel this is limiting ROM.

Is there anything to be said for switching to using shoulder width pull ups, (Still won't be able for 10X10) or even cable pull-downs, or is said program gospel? Would like to hear anybodies experiences with it. Loving the rest of it bar this particular exercise.

If you can't do chins, then I wouldn't try and switch to pull-ups.
Try band assisted chins and see if you can get 10x10, if you can then next time use a smaller band. Better than switching to lat pull-downs imo.

I'm not sure what you mean about gripping the bar? As in you struggle to grip the bar with palms facing you

If supination is a problem, neutral will be better. Overhand pull ups will be substantially harder.

When I did GVT I start on 10x5 chins and added a rep work week.

Not really doing the program, but found it worked well.

To think I thought Pull ups were going to be the hardest part of GVT..... how naive. Just finished the first 6 week Phase. Really want give the guy who invented this torture a swift kick in the balls, but my leg would probably fall off. Squats were pure hell, last set nearly had me in tears.

    On to the next phase....
