Hi All, I am thinking of purchasing a Purebred Hereford Bull Calf for resale as a Bull for breeding. I come from a dairy back round and I am wondering at what time of year do Beef cattle breeders seek Bulls and what age should a young bull be?

March onwards for a Hereford, I'd be aiming more towards the dairy guys too they will go for Hereford for mopping up. There aren't many suckler guys going for Hereford. Plus your cracked trying to buy a purebred calf to reR and sell on, buy an I calf cow and let her rear it.

So your saying Minane its a waste of time buying a Hereford Bull Calf from a registered Breeder. I remember this year a lot of Friesian Bulls left unsold at marts. What is the continental breed of choice at the moment. I fear the whole suckler calf as coming from a Dairy background the calf is bucket reared and quite. A suckler calf can be mad.

You can't rear a pedigree animal on a bucket and still turn out a top class bull. Hereford are quiet in general anyways so buy a bulling heifer an I calf heifer or cow at as high a standard as you can afford and work from there. It's hard to say what's the in breed but charlaois are always a serious seller but there are loads of lads at it. Parts could be an option.
