    Hi all

Is there anything I can do to improve gaming performance on this pc? I have googled endlessly but my knowledge is just not at the level that I can make sense of it....overclocking, CPUs, etc. etc.

    The specs are:

    Dell Dimension 9200
    CPU Brand & Type:Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz
    Current Voltage: 18 Volts
    Current Clock Speed: 2394
    Socket Type: Microprocessor
    CPU Load Percentage: 4% Load
    CPU Address Width: 64 (x64 \ x32)
    Motherboard: Dell DXP061
    RAM: 4GB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series

I am running it on an LG HD tv at 1920 x 1080

    Many thanks

Depends on the games you're looking to play really. Some games will benefit from a faster card, others will not benefit much as your processor is too old to keep up.

Thanks! Kind of as suspected really. Games would be mainly racing sims, the likes of Project Cars, Assetto Corsa....

So the CPU is the bottleneck then, or is the motherboard an issue too? I would like to get about six months of good use out of the PC before buying an entirely new self-build.

Can I update the CPU or overclock it? Would it make any difference?

Don't go any further in your research!!

Sorry, but there is no points in going any further with your pc in terms of upgrading. I just had a look at the Recommended Requirements for Project Cars and tbh your pc doesnt cut it for what you intend.

If I were you, I would save the what you would have thought about investing and put it towards the new build in 6 months.

Your Dell system could get a take a newer chip but hte real bottleneck is the 256MB graphics card, slow (by todays standards) memory, no SATA ports to consider SSD upgrades etc. etc.

Again, if I were you, I would save like a good thing and put up with your current performance until Feb and then spec and build a nice system for approx 800 eur. that will last you 2-3 years as opoossed to pumping a couple of hundred now for a system that will only disappoint when it comes to Project Cars etc

A 750ti 2GB would probably be a decent upgrade for the short term. It will still be bottlenecked a little by the cpu in some games but you should get a decent performance increase in most.

Saying that I'd go for a full upgrade asap. You could build a good PC for around €400-500. You could always get the 750ti for now and see if it helps much, if not you can put that into the new build.
