I brought A Onkyo (626 I think) 7.2 receiver back from America last year. Moved into a new house and while setting up the surround sound like a f***ing idiot I plugged it in without a convertor. So few popping sounds and some white smoke later I figured out my mistake.

Is this fixable? Or how much would it cost to fix?
If I get a convertor and plug it in now is there any chance it will work?
I need a receiver this weekend for the house warming. I have a Bose Accustimass 6 speaker set and my new house is wired for surround sound. So any suggestions for a system to manage this are welcome. Price limit around €300.

    Hi Jesper.

Sorry to hear about the the problem with your 626.
It seems as though it has fried the internals when hitting it with 220V/240V electrical supply.
I would not have any idea on the cost to fix this as it would most likely be a new board.

I would not recommend to plug it back in if smoke came out of it.

It may be possible to fix but I'd need to check with Onkyo in the first instance as its an American version and just to make sure its ok to send it to them.

Normally with a repair, you would need to return the unit to ourselves. It would need packaged well for shipping back to us to avoid any damage in transit.

There would then be a £50 estimate fee to be paid for us to send it off to Genserve (Onkyo repair agents). They would then come back to us with a cost to repair the unit which you can accept or decline. If you accept then the original £50 paid would come off the total repair bill. If declined you get your unit back as it was.

To replace the 626 on the budget of 300 Euro might be a bit tight as the 626 is a fantastic unit.
The 636 is priced at £499.00

You could have a look at the Yamaha RXV477 which is priced at £279.00 / 367.00 Euro
