Buying 3DS XL in America

My wife is heading to New York in two weeks for a week. We were thinking about getting our son a 3DS XL for Xmas.

Would the price difference between here and the US be noticeable?

Will games from over here work fine on a US 3DS?

Region lock means you'd have to buy 3ds games from US, think ds games would work fine though.

3DS XL would be ~$210 (using price on Amazon.com as a guide) + 8.875% tax in NY (prices in US don't include VAT/other taxes) so about $230 which is ~€181 (with a perfect exchange rate, depends on how you get your money) and the 3DS XL is €189 (according to amazon.de). There are various assumptions/estimations in the calculations but not sure there would be much savings. Actually it might save some money buying it in Duty Free in Dublin Airport, ring Dixons there and see what they're charging (http://www.dixonstravel.com/stores/dublin.aspx)or of The Loop shopping has them.

Also to add flew out of Dublin yesterday and couldn't see anywhere selling the 3DS (XL or otherwise) but was not looking particularly hard.
