back in loader

I have an ursus c385 same as zetor crystal

I was going to buy a front in loader as I need something to load bales on to a bale carrier. Someone told me between fitting and buying I was looking at €2000 euro and it was too much given tractor is worth 3000 and that I should buy a back end loader instead as it would be cheaper.

I don't have a lot of work for a loader but I need something to load bales as where the bales are I only have room to load bales from 1 side so I need something with a reach.

What are your views on this

You think it'll only be for loading bales but I honesty don't know how how lads farm without a loader.
A loader and a set of lifting slings and you'll never lift anything heavy again.

You'll find a 100 jobs made easier with the loader.

The biggets problem with the tractor is that it is idle a lot ie I dont have a lot of work for the tractor so it follows I wont have a lot of work for a loader.

Moving bales, spread fertiliser, bring home turf

Front end loader all the way. At least you can do other things with the tractor with the loader fitted. A back end loader you have to fit and remove every time you need to put anything on the linkage or the hitch.
Also you couldn't bring a trailer, drop it off the hitch, and load with bales.
No way do you need to spend 2000 euro. Keep an eye on D Deal, loaders with Zetor brackets come up for sale regular enough. Should get sorted with an older Quickie or Alo, Cameron Gardiner or Grays for between 800 and 1000
Zetor's are good heavy old girls, with a bit of length about them, well able to load bales without a rear weight.

I got the back end loader fitted - it is a self levelin back loader.

Problem is that my ursus crystal is rearing up when I lift the bale at the back

    why is this

Other than getting weights what are my options

I've seen some of those carry the bale a long way out from the back. The problem is the weight so far from the back wheels is acting like a lever with the back wheels as a pivot point and the weight of the tractor in front of the back wheels isn't enough to counterbalance it. Unless you can get the bale closer to the tractor some way (not likely) your options are lift lighter bales or use counter weight on the front.

the first thing that came to mind when I read the first post, was that this would happen! You will have to add weight to the front, wither with weights, or fill the front wheels with water.

We had a massey 188 with a mckenna back loader and wheel weights plus 150kg front weights was barely able to get around with a silage bale 20 yrs ago. And bales got a lot heavier now. loader could lift but tractor too light. reason we got it was dad heard lots of scare stories of loaders destroying front axles. you might as well have a dedicated loading shovel as your tractor is useless for anything other than loader work once you got on your backend loader. and they are not something you want to be putting on or off the whole time. front end loaders are popular for a reason

If you only want to load bales on a trailer etc, without the expense of buying a front loader you could use a forklift mast type job with bale handler mounted on it.
Cheap and cheerful on useful around a yard.

I have to bring the bales home from a field 3 miles away, can these be transported easily. Also I can only load bales from one side (no room to do anything else)

You have what you have, not to everyone's taste, but if it works for you that's all that matters..
Either buy or make weights for the front of the tractor and you'll manage fine.
