ADSL ASUS Wireless N600 Router with UPC

I may have made a mistake but I am going to try and work through it. I hate the Technicolor router I got with UPC. Wireless strength is worse than the old UPC router. I wanted to get one with better wireless strength so I went with an ASUS router after doing some basic research (I don't have a clue about routers and networking).

I bought an ASUS DSL-N600 (or DSL-N55U) router as I was told in PC World that it will work with UPC. It doesn't have a connection for the cable so I have just turned off wireless on the UPC Technicolor modem and plan on just using it as a wireless router. I have connected it to my techncolor router with a network cable and now can see and connect to the ASUS wireless network. So far so good.

I want to configure the Asus router so I go to 192.168.1.1 but this still takes me to the UPC settings page rather than the settings page for the ASUS router. How do I get to the settings of the ASUS router so I can configure it.

Second question - obviously I wanted a router I could just use with UPC and throw away the stupid Technicolor one - what type of router should I have purchased?

    1. You cannot throw away the UPC one, its provisioned and they wont allow you to use your own. It also remains their property.

    2. You have two options here, bridge or just use a 2nd unit as an access point for wifi. Bridging will transfer all network control to the ASUS. The latter just lets it run the wifi end of things and is simple to setup.

    From a quick google:

Which can be turned on at http://192.168.1.1/Advanced_OperationMode_Content.asp

To bridge you have to use SNMP commands IIRC and its a little tricky. So the above will be easier to setup for a novice user.

    Cable -Technicolour--ethernet--Asus---All your devices.
