need new runners for the gym. was looking at the nike roshe shoes for €88 yesterday in grey.
Are they any good? how long are the roshe out with. they will have to last me a year so don't want them to be old fashioned in three months etc

Are they for running or what?

Do you actually mean you don't want them to be so last season in three months?

They look like fashion trainers and have some amusing marketing blurb.
Inspired by the practice of meditation and concept of Zen, the Nike Roshe Run iD epitomizes simplicity. It has no embellishments, just basic shoe necessities brought to life with every detail. Almost every part of the shoe reflects an aspect of a tranquil Zen garden: a modified Waffle outsole made to look like stepping stones, an insole that mirrors a raked rock garden, and slightly different midsole side lengths—a juxtaposition of seriousness and playfulness.

User comments suggest they're comfortable but useless for running.

What do you plan on doing in the gym? Identify trainers specific to your exercise needs - try on lots of pairs to see which ones fit best. Go for functionality over looks. Read reviews online.

Shell out and go to a decent shop where the staff know their stuff (rather than some high street fashion shoe store with some clueless surly teenager cursing you for interrupting their conversation).

Amphibian King and Runways are shops I've used; friends have also been happy with the service in both shops. I'm sure plenty of people on this forum can recommend their favourites.

no not running just basically as shoes while in the gym.
yes that's exactly it, don't want them to become old fashioned fast as they will need to do me for a year or so. how long are nikes selling these with?

Nike Free 4.0 are the way to go. Pricey enough, but very comfortable and I find the minimalist sole good and stable for squatting, while being very breathable and cushioned enough to do things like box jumps. Those Roshe shoes are for walking around town, not for the gym.

Gym fashion is a serious thing

I can't help but ask what difference does it matter if they're out if season in the gym?

Get yourself a pair of cheapo runners from Dunnes or Penneys and you'll have change from a tenner to buy some stylish accessories with.

1999 - "man, how'd you get that form?!"

2014 - "OMG I just love your shoes!"
