Sky news article, about pilots looking for tighter rules surrounding large Uav & drones,

Given the rapid expansion of drone development, It probably isn't a bad idea the have a law that reflects how easy it is to purchase a drone capably of causing interference to aircraft operations.
Pilots are demanding the UK becomes a "safe drone zone" to protect against potential risks such as remote hijacks and poorly-trained operators.

Saw that Sky News report and another on the BBC last night and yet another on Channel 4 News just now.

And after watching all three I now want to get my hands on a drone.

Anyone know any good places in Ireland to buy one or a good online retailer ?

Heathrow plane in near miss with drone http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-30369701 is there actually report on this on the CAA site or somewhere? happened in July
An Airbus A320 pilot reported seeing a helicopter-style drone as the jet was 700 feet off the ground on its approach to the runway at 1416 GMT on 22 July.

The CAA has not identified the airline or how close the drone came to the plane, which can carry 180 people.

It gave the incident an "A" rating, meaning a "serious risk of collision".

This is the highest incident rating the CAA can give.

Investigators were unable to identify the drone, which did not appear on air traffic control radar and disappeared after the encounter.

a helicopter type drone ? or model helicoptor or maybe one the types film companies use?

It'll be the beginning of the end for drone use by the general public I feel. Certainly can see an operating licence having to be had in the future.

Air safety investigators due to release report into incident, which took place in July and involved an Airbus A320 http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/07/drone-near-miss-passenger-plane-heathrow

by the UK Airprox Board http://www.airproxboard.org.uk/

The UK Airprox Board’s primary objective is to enhance air safety in the UK, in particular in respect of lessons to be learned and applied from Airprox occurrences reported within UK airspace.

To emphasise both the scope of its work and its independence, UKAB is sponsored jointly, and funded equally, by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the UK Military Aviation Authority (MAA).

the paper that had it first http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/uk_news/National/article1492806.ece
The official report is due to be published on Friday

so a week of drone hype before we can actually read report

    Drone activity over Cork.

Obviously not everything is reported in the statistics.

does IAA or AAIU do these kind of near miss / proximity reports

this an example http://www.aaiu.ie/node/640 a catalogue like the UK one would be helpful

Incident: Model Aircraft, No reg, Dublin Airport, 7 Dec 1996: Report No 1998-017
The model was flying circuits at a registered aeromodel site in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. After a take-off, which followed a normal circuit, command of the model was lost. The model then flew off in a North-east direction. When its fuel was exhausted, the model glided to earth, and landed on the new link taxi-way near the threshold of Runway 28 at Dublin Airport.

The report finds that the probable cause of the loss of command was the exhaustion of the receiver battery.

incredible the model aircraft wanted to join her big brothers

that report unidentified model helicopter near plane http://www.airproxboard.org.uk/docs/423/2014117.pdf
He stated that a small black object was seen to the left of the aircraft as they
passed 700ft in the descent, which passed about 20ft over the wing.
