Hi I'm hoping for some help with my Nissan primera 2002 1.6 petrol... Sometimes when I try and start her she won't turn over.. She's running well apart from that when she does start tho!! I've been told the car isn't recognizing the key but it happens with both the spare key and original key...i do think it's the immobilizer that's acting up myself but I know very little so I can't be sure..it's a very irritating problem because it's random.. It could be fine for a week then it Acts up ..can't use it for work at this rate or anything without risk of being stranded.. Any help appreciated

Could be a problem with the ignition switch, the solenoid or wiring / connections between the two. Have you checked the battery terminals for tightness and corrosion.

Unlikely that its a problem with key recognition as if it was, I suspect it'd turn over but not fire.

So when car act up and then actually starts, does it take a few tries with the key or do you have to come back 10 mins later?

car should turn over but not fire ,check battery does a jump start get you going [ faulty battery ] ?does stater need a tap to get engine to turn over?ignition contact worn wobble key in the start position to check if it starts.

The last time it did it it took four hours but saying that I was attempting it fairly often throughout the four hours.. Longest interval being maybe an hour roughly...I did hear three faint beeps at Times aafter turning the key from the engine...and the lights ( indicater) flashed after a while..this morning none of the beeps or lights just not turning

I tried to jump start it and nothing..the battery was new... I should have said so in the first post

Give a couple of light taps to the starter with a small hammer and see what happens.

dont forget the wobble key test.

Ya she's turning over as in the key does move all the way to the start position freely but springs back to acc without any firing..just a click and the lights did blink twice..

click sounds like faulty starter and you need someone to tap it while key is in start position,if it turn over when tapped theres your problem.

As in hit the key entry with a hammer?

Absolutely NOT!. (I presume "key entry" = "ignition switch"!)

The "key entry" is not the starter. If you cannot identify that on the car, it's probably best to call in a mechanic.

find stater motor and tap body of it with brush handle a few times.

always a good idea to use google for unknown items to guide you.

Sounds like your brushes in the starter are worn, happened to me this week.
When the brushes weardown they stick in the brushbox, when you give it a bang with a wheelnut wrench or similar it allows them to jump and unstick.
That said its only a temporary fix, sooner or later you need to get it fixed, they are cheap to buy and easy enough to fix in general.
