Car cutting out on slow down

    Hi all,

Read a few threads but the answers seem to be mixed.

Basically, my car frequently shudders when slowing down in 2nd gear or when coming to a sto". The rev counter is erratic. Sometimes its cuts out entirely. After a drive on the motorway, the engine light comes on. I got a whole new engine in, and changed the throttle on that, and cleaned out the air filter but it still occurs. Also, when accelerating out of 1st or 2nd, sometimes it there is a lag in the "ower.

2OO3 Nissan Almera 3 door tekna.

" denotes a key on my keyboard not working. Also no zero.

    What engine is it?

    1.5L petrol engine.

Im going to get a new car in January when I get some money, but I also want to sell on my the Almera so need it in working order. The new engine only has a little over 60k miles on it. I dont think it has to do with the engine exactly, because this started before i had it installed.

Do you 'coast' when slowing down in preparation of stopping? (Depressing the clutch to let the car "freewheel".) That could cause the engine to cut out and could explain the erratic rev clock.

I'm no mechanic but I think it could be the fuel line, clutch or electrical fault.

    Crankshaft sensor maybe.

Is the check engine light coming on at all? Have you had a fault code scan done since?

The engine light comes on after a drive at higher speed, like on the motorway, but then goes off after a day or two. Mechanic said it's because the car is burning "too lean".

Sometimes I'll coast to as top yeah, I think. Never given much thought to it. When I am about to stop I'll clutch and pop it into 1st and sit then. Actually, yesterday I was going into Dundrum carpark, and as it ramps down, I just put my foot on clutch and let it roll, and it cut out.

I had a problem with the NCT. Emissions too high. Got a new engine put in because mechanic thought it was the timing chain. Passed the NCT but still not running smooth.

When I slow down to turn into my drive, the power steering always goes, the car shudders and the odd time will cut out.

Playing a wildcard here but could it be the CAT loose inside the exhaust system. With changing speed and engine revs it moves around so it blocks off the flow of the exhaust?

Crankshaft sesor or dirty fuel lime are my guesses

I had an almera with this problem a few years back, It was a clogged breather pipe.

If the engine light is coming on it will be storing fault code in the ECU. Get them read and see if it shows something up. Then look into the suggestions above or getting a better mechanic to do all that for you.

Does sound like a fuelling issue, live data and fuel trim numbers will be the way forward here. Did you get the lean mixture fault codes with the old engine or with the replacement one?
