    Hi guys

Quick one, if I quit my job will I be entitled to receive social welfare payments? I have been paying my taxes for years so just curious as I am not getting on well in my job at the moment.

    Any help appreciated

In almost all circumstances I would say DO NOT QUIT YOUR JOB. Find another first as it's much easier to get a job if you already have one.

Regarding SW payments, my understanding, open to correction, is that you will be entitled to up to €188 per week under Jobseekers Benefit for a maximum of 9 months - less if you don't have enough PRSI contributions, or didn't earn too much to begin with.

However: "You may be disqualified from getting Jobseeker's Benefit for 9 weeks if you: Left work voluntarily and without a reasonable cause"

After 9 months you would be entitled to €188 under Jobseekers Allowance. This is means tested and has some other limitations.
