Reis looked shook at the very start of the round. Beautiful kick to the ribs and nice submission.

Going to check the odds on a Davis/Mendes sub double.

Cabral has become known online as "Sleazy Machida" apparently. Have to say, looking at him, it kinda suits him.

That Elkins v Martins fight was a tough one to watch. Elkins gave the type of performance that makes Dana White rant.

This fight's a bit weird, the lack of atmosphere makes it feel very boring

Close fight, I think the decision was right though, Mendes just didnt pressure hard enough in those even rounds of standing and trading. Bring on McGregoat!

Good fight. Mendes just didn't have the clinical edge in the end. As a relative n00b, I look forward to what happens next.

Cant see mcgregor fearing anything he saw there, aldo definately not the force he was.

Mendes went for surprisingly few takedowns although when he did go for them Aldo is so quick he either avoided them or got back to his feet almost immediately.

Aldo is a very tough fight for Conor although he's tough for anyone. On the plus side for Conor is that Aldo is definitely very hittable despite his hand speed. Mendes tagged him a lot and Aldo's face was a mess by the end.

McGregor called it,Mendes in love with his hands and had no chance to outstrike Aldo.

As did pretty much anyone who has seen both fighters. Mendes was never going to win standing in front of Aldo. He got in some good strikes but his angles were poor and had Aldo tried to land leg kicks I think he could have slowed Mendes down early on. Good fight but Mendes was always coming off second best.

Hey guys been out all day and missed the main card. Is it worth getting it in now. Undercard is recorded.

No spoilers please. PM might be easiest

Conor gets himself mentioned in both fighters post fight interviews in the cage! He has that whole division so wound up and they are all too riled up to see that they are playing right into his hands. He doesn't even need to fuel the hype train anymore now that the rest of them are doing it for him.

Impressive victory for Aldo IMO. Mendes was good and did well at times. Very good 4th round (& 3rd also) from him but overall he was outclassed.

Even in the pre fight show he was mentioned. DC and Cruz debate 3 rounds.

Rd1: Can Mendes with getting it down.
Rd2: McGregor title shot after Siver
Rd3: Davis v Teixeira, who chalkehrs the title

It's gone to the next level now where he constantly being mentioned even when he's not on the card.

Anyone notice Conor standing for most of the fight. Hard to miss his pink shirt in a crowd mostly wearing black

Brilliant fight. I'm a bit of a Mendes fan after that, it was a ballsy performance. Much closer than the scorecard suggests, my video wasn't the best but to me the late strikes in round 1 looked very late and a point could have easily been deducted. R1 and R3 were being controlled by Mendes as well until he got sloppy with his hands and got dropped, he went way too open once he rocked Aldo. Very competitive fight and enjoyable to watch, that's the first time Aldo's been hurt iirc. The scorecard may have been closer against Edgar but that was Aldo's closest UFC fight.

Aldo is a freak though, I think he's just a level above and I don't want to see Conor fight him yet. His handspeed is crazy, his takedown defence and ability to get back up is inhumane and last night we found out that he has an iron chin as well. Mendes has big power and he landed some massive shots, all he could do was rock Aldo momentarily though. Lost a bit of respect for Aldo after the late shots and the constant moaning about fouls (I thought he was doing his best to get a point deducted from Mendes).

Thanks. Must have a look at that. Two people whom I have never heard being overly generous in their praise of McGregor, so should be interesting.

Edit: can't find a video of this on YouTube or through google......

    ........anyone????

It was part of the prelim show.

To clarify, those were the questions asked to them.
DC said Frankie v Cub should be the title decider.
Cruz agreed and said he wanted to see Bermudez v McGregor.

    I agree with both tbh.

In fairness the early eye pokes and the kick to the groin were cut and dry foul strikes. The latter ones, particularly the groin strike were borderline. I would disagree that he was trying to get a point taken off. He would have been glad of it certainly but I don't think he was milking it. Another ref on another day could easily and justifiably have penalised Mendes.

The first 2 eyepokes were dodgy yes, but after that I thought Aldo was milking it a bit. The groin strike was clearly a knee that ended in a toe to the nads, after that he kept looking to the ref for a foul but he told him to carry on. For all I know he was actually being fouled because the 'fouls' later on weren't replayed, but to me it looked like he knew Mendes was close to a point deduction so he was chancing his arm.

I've no idea. I'm watching on Fuel TV in australia.
What do they show between the prelim fights on BT sports?

He could have mixed it up a bit more but I thought Mendes did really well, like you said Aldo's TDD is insane so there wasn't that much point in it. 1 or 2 more wouldn't have killed him though. His standup was very good and he stood with Aldo better than most expected.

For me the 3 turning points that killed it for Mendes were (1) in R1 when he had Aldo a little rocked and was winning the round he went a bit wild and got knocked down himself and then lost the round which he was winning, (2) the late shots after R1, could have been a point deduction and they rocked Mendes and (3) (similar to #1) in R3 when he rocked Aldo again he went too wild. Had he been a little more conservative at that point he could have won R1 and R3, it's easy for me to say though. Aldo for the first time in his career looked wobbled twice so it looked like an opportunity for Mendes but his recovery was insane, he went from looking a punch or two from being KO'd to downing his opponent in a split second. That said, 49-46 was wrong imo but not unexpected with Aldo the champ and at home, it was a 48-47 I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,961 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

48/47 is how I saw it also but wouldnt argue either way

the 30-27 score by one judge for martins in the elkins fight was one of the worst ive ever heard
texeira is more or less finished, the shane carwin of the div, expected more than that from him even if davis is a hard lad to fight, was hoping for something similiar to what rumble did to davis but tex just plain slow in comparison

delighted for maldonado but stringer is poor, can't remember seeing so many wrestlers on one card, elkins shocking to watch, couldnt wait for that fight to end

What a fantastic fight that was.

One of the best fights I've ever seen. But saying that. Am I the only one that thinks Aldo now looks beatable?

Before he rarely got touched with the stand up. Yet mendes, who has little to no reach, was able to land with a hell of a lot of strikes. If that was mcgregor, and he landed, then it's goodnight Irene.

I for you cannot wait for that fight.

But hats off to mendes. He really put his all into that entertaining scrap.

This is something I can't agree with, especially after last night. Mendes has big power and has been KOing guys for fun since Aldo-Mendes 1, he caught him with some massive shots and the best he could do was kind of rock him a couple of times. That uppercut in R3 knocks down the vast majority of FWs. Aldo looked easier to hit though.

inclined to agree with you there
think aldo may have too much speed for conor and may win a pts dec
dont think mcgregor is ready for aldo just yet
I do think conor would take mendes though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭CurryFlavoured

On one hand I don't think Aldo has faced anything like Conor's standup yet and I think he'd be willing to stand which is good for Conor, plus he was getting hit pretty often last night, but on the other hand the intensity of yesterday with Aldo's variety and ability to take shots makes me think he's not ready yet. Personally I wouldn't be confident of McG against Mendes either, the fact that he could take Aldo down tells me he could probably take down McG consistently. I think Aldo, Frankie and Mendes are the top 3, luckily for Conor Frankie's ageing but doesn't seem to be declining. I'd be much more confident of Conor against Cub or Bermudez.
