Eircom & Youtube

    Hello everyone!

Something has been bothering me for a very long time with eFibre. Youtube. Using the youtube "stats for nerd" feature after finding the video loading to be fairly slow I saw it to be only 1MB download, although I have around 30MBps. At first I thought it was just delays etc, how eircom goes and all that, but three weeks later it persists. And I suspect throttling, to illustrate my point, I have a video. One with the default youtube and one using a London based proxy.

    https ://ww w.you tube. c m/watch?v=cx07DFeta7g&feature=youtu .be

Sorry for the spacing,I hope you get my point.
    Thanks

And no, I havent just signed up to post links. I just want to show you the video of the comparison

Eircom are awful eejits. I have a solution if you guys want.

Change your DNS settings on your modem. Search Public DNS(I'd give a link but boards.ie is not letting me)

If this worked for you, go yell at Eircom(a lot until it's fixed), Thanks.

Tell me if this fixes anything for you.

Sadly not, Just used a chrome proxy and I'm at 17MBPs on youtube now. Eircom screws up once again...

I've always had DNS on googles 8.8.8.8 DNS server and it only starting acting up after a week or so. Weirdly on the youtube iOS app, everything loads fine. Just browser viewing is painfully slow

What is your DNS2; Is it public DNS as well.
I can repeatedly reproduce the problem by going back to eircom's DNS IPs

Google's DNS actually slows me down, using eircoms DNS in conjunction with the chrome proxy works better than without!
So its an odd boat for me I'm afraid.

    How does OpenDNS work out?

    Benchmarks would be amazing :)

Edit: Public DNS nearly fully saturates my bandwidth to Youtube.
Edit 2: To make sure the new DNSs are working a reboot between tests would be best.

Also my latency on games like CS:S/GO and Arma 3 have taken a turn from the worst. I've been at 20ms ping now at close to 200.
