i'm looking at audi a6's on done deal. Some have round spot lights on the front and some have square spots with different grill pattern around the spots.

Are the square spot ones the ones with the newer common rail engine?

If it's the facelift model (post 09) then it's more likely that the round spots are an S-line spec car. The rectangle spots were standard on the regular cars. If it's a 2010 you are looking at that's probably the case.

I'm not sure on the engines but I thought that all the facelift diesels were commonrail. I could be wrong on that.

All A6s got the common rail TDI engines when the facelift model appeared towards the end of 2008. All facelift models have rear LED lights and exterior mirrors with indicators in them. Also worth noting that the SE model had different shaped front bumper and fog lights to the higher spec S-Line model. SE fog lights are rectangle in shape while S-Line models are round and have chrome surround on the front fog lights.

Thanks for that lads, I had noticed that it was the s lines had the round spots but thought that coincidental and that all the ones I was looking at were manufactured at the same time In 2010

So I can look at cars from end of 2008 onwards in order to avoid the 2.0tdi PD engine in a6?

As long as it's the facelifted model it will have the CR engines. There was an overlap between 2008 and 2009. I've seen facelifted 2008 ones about and also seen pre facelifted early 2009 too.

I think the face lifted s-line only came in 2010 maybe a few late 09' out there tho.
That's why you are seeing all 10's with round spots.

There was only 1 facelifted A6 registered in Ireland, in 2008 as a brand new car. If it's a KM clock with an 08 plate, it's highly likely that it's a pre-facelift model, unless it's Beige with Beige Leather, NAV & TV Tuner.............

The 08 facelifted one I seen had a fairly high reg number so I'm presuming it was imported.
