TRAINER Philip Fenton was on Thursday found guilty of possessing anabolic steroids after a full hearing into charges brought by Ireland's Department of Agriculture at Carrick-on-Suir District Court in County Tipperary.

Fenton has been fined €6,000 and must pay more than €10,000 in total costs following the case.

    More to follow . . .

I wonder how the turf club will react, could be a healthy ban incoming.

    Let's hope so.

The search took place at Fentons in January 2012, oh how the wheels of justice turn in Ireland

Now the Turf Club have decided to launch an investigation

I mean, if your caught with your hand in the cookie jar, at least admit you were caught. I lost any self respect I had for Fenton today are his ridiculous argument that the search was illegal because a form wasn't filled out.

Pat Hughes found guilty weeks ago for the same offence and is going to appeal, his excuses were just embarrassing(he blamed a dead vet), yet no Turf Club sanctions on him yet

So I await with bated breath the press release from the Turf Club with their interpretation of what they consider justice in this instance.

I'm not defending them or anything but according to the RP, Gigginstown have/are removing their horses from Phillip Fentons yard

Even Rats will leave a sinking ship.

10 months too late to my mind, when this case was before the courts last February, and it was obvious to a blind man how this was going to play out, big mouth Eddie slagged off the Dept of Agriculture vets, saying it was bureaucracy gone mad and jobs for the boys, Dept vets who had a handy number and wanted to make sure bottles were correctly labelled, he accused the dept vets of ignorance of how training yard actually works, blah, blah.

Well, Eddie, as can be seen from today's events, the one ignorant is this scenario was you.

What MOL should have done when he was getting rid of Davy Russell, was get rid of his brother Eddie as well, as he hasn't a clue what he is doing - some of his purchases are absolutely shocking, and the idea of getting Elliott to train all the young point to pointers and then send them to inferior trainers is laughable

Blaming Russell for bad rides when a lot of the time he was riding bad horses.

Andalucia - Alot of the points you have made are valid but it's clear that you have a vendetta against Gigginstown or Fenton. Some of the comments are way over the top. You would want to be well involved in racing to be making some of the comments you have made above attacking the Turf Club also.

More than likely this is going to be appealed inthe courts so maybe you should keep quiet until that is over?

Maybe it was a bad Ryanair experience?

What difference does an appeal make except to stall any disciplinary action that the Turf Club with impose. It's an open and shut case. What that other poster said re. Eddie O'Leary is 100% accurate. imo.

Well for one thing its a part of the judicial process in this and all other democracys. Do you think we operate under shiria law or something?

I'm full aware of the judicial process thank you. If you think an appeal will make any difference to THIS case then you are delusional. Fenton was found guilty of procession of illegal steroids in his yard. There is no grey area here.

People should be very outspoken about this whole fiasco now and not "keep quiet until that <appeal> is over" as you say. imo.

Michael o Leary looks like some fool now standing in front of the ch4 cameras at Cheltenham proclaiming fentons innocence. Why didn't he let his true feelings be known we want last instalment to run and we don't care if his trainer is a cheat.

Depressing stuff, no one gets caught. The material cant be detected after 3 days of being administered and he imported enough for 1500 individual doses. That could dope every horse in every race from here to christmas. Seeing is not believeing when it comes to irish horse racing thats for sure.

nicely done to pat John Hughes on the back with a five year ban from racing, should have sent in a forensic accountant and IT expert to trawl through his paperwork and computer to identify some of his clients.

I mean if his naive enough to import the stuff through the post, God knows what kind of a trail he left, there was talk of a list of trainers and quantities and monies owed, but it seems to have been well buried, so no sleepless nights for any more trainers.

He was caught with stuff to dose 1500 horse, doubt he was trying to sell it to the local body building fraternity. But no, Fenton was a one off and there is no steroid problem in Irish racing,

An industry which self polices itself does not lend itself to transparency, Dept of Agriculture should have more of a role in testing the industry rather than the Turf Club

Fenton had a runner yesterday at Fairyhouse and has a couple declared to run at Clonmel on Thursday. Is the ban not in force yet or what?

Had the same line of thought...backed his in the bumper at Navan last sunday, unplaced(Akito).. was really well backed from 14s to 4s first time out.

Clonmel his local track as well ref tomorrow. Will be there myself and will have a look

He has just the one runner at Clonmel tomorrow. It definitely goes on the ground and it definitely stays so I might have a punt if there is money for it.

Saw that will be interesting if punted in morning

Will be interested to see if/when the other clients will be outted. New season around the corner. Better to have a clean out before rather than smack in the middle of it.
