Our flight is leaving at 12.20 on Saturday, heading to JFK, I'm just wondering what would be the recommended time to be there at?

One of the travelling party is saying 9, due to the fact we are going to the states and all the customs side of things are done here, but 9, jesus, that's early!!!!!

Aer Lingus recommend checking in 3.5 hours before long haul flights: http://www.aerlingus.com/travelinformation/knowbeforeyoufly/check-in/check-intimes/

They also recommend 2.5 hours for shorthaul, which frankly is excessive. They quote extended times to allow for people to get something to eat/shop.

I would normally show up 1.5 hours before a shorthaul flight, so allowing another hour for all of the US CBP clearance procedures, I'd suggest 2.5 hours beforehand should be adequate - so around 09:45.

2.5 hours should be plenty. I flew Shannon-JFK last year and from checking in to being ready to board was maximum 45 mins.

Also, going through American customs took me no more then 5 mins. That's the beauty of Shannon.

Getting out of Shannon is even better. Last time it took me 8 minutes from the door of the plane to my car in the park4less car park.

2.5 hours before would pretty much guarantee you almost a full hour to eat/relax before the flight too. You'd want a little extra if it were Dublin though.
